The Golden Globe awards were tonight and I am quite happy so far with what happened. Shakespeare in Love won Best Comedy film and Best Actress (Gwyneth Paltrow) which were well deserved although I also think that Joseph Fiennes should've gotten the Best Actor nod as well. Also, The Truman Show won Best Dramatic Actor (Jim Carrey) and Best Supporting Dramatic Actor (Ed Harris). Steven Spielberg won another Best Director award, this time for Saving Private Ryan. The reason why these awards make me so happy is that they are usually pretty good indicators of what will happen in the Academy Awards. Keep an eye out... the Oscar nominations will be February 9th... I think.

Kevin Smith was here today!! In case you don't know who he is, he is the writer/director/actor who created such masterpieces as Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy. He came out here to NIU tonight and was the target in a Q&A session about his movies, comic books, etc. Afterwards, I was invited to a private reception where I was able to get his autograph and also pass on my resumé to him. Not bad, eh?
I got out of here today!! Woo hoo!! It feels great to get out of DeKalb once in a while. I went in to Woodfield Mall and bought some clothes with a friend of mine. Also went to see Shakespeare in Love. Excellent movie with great acting. It would be cool to think that the Bard's life actually worked out this way. You should definitely check it out if you get the chance and if there is a theater around you that is showing it.
[editor's note: that friend was Katie and this was actually a date.]
Cool! I signed up for an internship today. I'll be earning credit hours for updating a webpage for one of the professors in my department. He is the chief editor of a scholarly journal and his page has info about said journal on it. I'm not sure what is on it besides that. I also get to use this internship for a class project in my multimedia design course. Not bad to have things cross over like this.
[editor's note: I'm still his web editor and he still refuses to let me modernize his website that is so hopelessly lost in the mid-90s.]
My truck was hit yesterday in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Hit and run, no less! Bunch of fucking savages in this world. It's not as bad as I originally anticipated though. The scrape that looked like it was down to the metal turned out to be fragments of her (the auto assailant's) paint job and I have nothing more than rubber streaks on the side of my truck. Only really have to replace the taillight housing and cover. Still hurts to have it happen none the less.
Happy New Year Everyone!! I really didn't do all that damn much last night to help celebrate the new year. Just stuck around and watched movies and talked on the phone with some people. Ah, well. Didn't feel all that different from any other day of the year. What did you do to celebrate the new year? Let me know.
