This has got to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen in terms of independent video production.
Basically, an artist named Ahree Lee began taking a digicam self portrait of herself on November 1, 2001. This trend continued every single day. I think it's still going on as she calls this film a work in progress.
Well, she has now taken each shot and spliced it together into a film showing her evolution over what amounts to nearly five years. Each photo is a single frame within the video and, while it may sound a bit weird, the end result is fantastic.
And the music on the video was written by her husband. It, too, is really good.
Yes, this video is also available on YouTube, but if you watch it on AtomFilms, she actually receives a royalty for it. Either way, it's free to you.
Oh, and I've got a meme for you in the extended post, courtesy of SJ.
One Book:
- One book that changed my life: Tough one. Probably any of a number of Choose Your Own Adventure novels that I read as a kid since they were some of the first books I read purely for pleasure. Thus opening me up to reading as an obsession.
- One book that I have read more than once: None. I have never read a book more than once for pleasure. I have gone back and reread bits and pieces for the purpose of reminding myself of some detail I forgot and needed for reference, but I have never read one more than once if it wasn't for school. And that lone academic instance would be Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet which I read both in high school and grad school.
- One book I would want on a deserted island: Definitely not that TV tie-in book to the show Lost, that's for sure. Heh. But as an ironic sort of fun read, I'd have to pick Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Whole island theme going here.
- One book that made me laugh: Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. I harp about this one quite often, but that's because it's damn good.
- One book that made me cry: Marley & Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan. I can't imagine a single red-blooded human being that wouldn't at least get weepy reading this. Even if you're not a dog lover.
- One book I wish I'd written: Why Do Men Have Nipples? Hundreds of Questions You'd Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini by Mark Leyner and Billy Goldberg, M.D. Hilariously funny, yet practical, guide to those medical questions you'd never ask in public. The concept is brilliant as is the execution.
- One book I wish had never been written: Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard. Oh, how it's fucked up modern "religion" and Hollyweird.
- One book I am currently reading: Cast of Shadows by Kevin Guilfoile and A Death in Belmont by Sebastian Junger. Okay, so it's two. I'm juggling here.
- One book I have been meaning to read: The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson. I've been eyeing this book for years and have yet to even buy it. Then, of course, there's one that I bought years ago and still have to read. And that is The Last Temptation of Christ by Nikos Kazantzakis.
- One book I think everyone should read: Last Chance to See by Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine.
Steal away!
