I love when art and life comingle a bit, get all kinds of cozy together, and wind up turning out a result such as Left. Left. Left. Right, Left.
LLLRL is a project by senior fine art student Giuseppe Pellicano to commemorate those who have fallen in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has created ceramic military boots with each one representing and featuring the name of a soldier lost as submitted to him by friends, relatives, or fellow servicemen and women.
His hope is that, by the time of the North Central College Senior Art Show, he will have 200 boots completed. He currently stands at just over a dozen.
I don't personally know anyone who has fallen in combat. I'm entirely grateful for that fact. But if I did, I would certainly send their information to Giuseppe. I think this is a fantastic way to memorialize those lost.
If you do know of someone, please consider forwarding their information on to him. Details are on his site.
Thank you to the Naperville Sun for bringing this project to my attention. Very cool, indeed.
The Academy Award nomination announcements this morning were interesting, indeed.
I don't think there's a clear frontrunner in the Best Animated Feature category for the first time since the category was created.
The fact that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were not nominated for Best Score for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has gotta be one of the biggest disappointments for me.
But, that is slightly made up for by the fact that neither Elton John nor Madonna were nominated for Best Song. In fact, only two songs received noms, neither of which, I believe, were even in consideration for Golden Globes. Here's hoping we see Bret McKenzie up there accepting for "Man or Muppet" from The Muppets.
While I don't always see all the movies that receive major nominations prior to the awards being given out, I have, at the very least, heard of them. Until, that is, this year. Albert Nobbs??? Both Glenn Close and Janet McTeer received acting noms for this film that I've never freakin' heard of at all. Any of you?
Any surprises for any of you? I've got my favorites, but I'll reveal those at a date closer to the actual awards show. Maybe be a joint post from Katie and I. Woo!
