I wish there was some kind of physical punishment available for writers of hyper-sensationalized headlines for news stories both online and in print.
I am so sick and tired of reading crap like this as a headline in my news aggregator...
Only to read the story and discover that the "close shave" is 27,000 miles.
Twenty-seven thousand miles!
According to UniverseToday.com, the equatorial diameter of planet Earth is 7,926 miles. The distance between our planet and this close-shave asteroid is more than three times the distance from end to end.
What will this do to our planet? Absolutely nothing. But somebody will buy into it. Many somebodies, in fact. Humans, you see, are gullible and stupid. And we're lazy. Most of us will read the headline and nothing more. It's just the truth.
