I’ve been known to shuffle things around in my Kevin’s 7 lists several times throughout the year. Yes, I actually start these two lists, along with my Kevin’s 7 Song list, at the beginning of the year.
I’ll add and delete and move stuff around in the Clear Todos app (iOS App Store link) as my tastes and mood allows. It’s really quite handy.
Well, in the case of these two lists, right up to the moment I was putting finger to touchscreen, my top album was Japandroids’ Near to the Wild Heart of Life and my top Movie was Thor: Ragnarok.
At press time, they became Beck’s Colors and War for the Planet of the Apes. I just started thinking about each and what they had meant to me personally and it was patently obvious that they needed to be at the top.
This same reconsideration happened with Miley Cyrus’ Younger Now, which was at number 7 when I started writing.
Before I clicked Publish, I had bumped it up to number 4. I liked it and listened to it that freaking much. Yes, it was just as surprising to me to realize that.
But this sort of freedom to change my mind at a moment’s notice is something I love about writing to a personal blog and not being a paid reviewer. I feel they get more locked in or are expected to respond to music a certain way. I get to do whatever I want. And I love it.
