Many would argue that the best use of soundtrack music comes from the films of Quentin Tarantino.
To a large degree, they would be right. But allow me a second to nominate a couple other soundtracks that really make their respective films... Deadpool and Deadpool 2.
I wish I had more time to get into it but the way those oddly matched up songs work together to bring to life (and death) the story of Wade Wilson, the Merc with the Mouth, is second to none. Not even Reservoir Dogs and “Stuck in the Middle.” Not even Pulp Fiction and “You Never Can Tell.”
Heck, the opening credits to Deadpool with “Angel of the Morning” blows my mind. It’s such a well-produced segment. And, while I won’t ruin the scene in which it appears, I can honestly say I never anticipated Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” used as it is in Deadpool 2. Damn.
I will never be able to separate these images from these songs. Ever. And I love it.
And the movie itself? Amazeballs! Better than the first. Great casting and writing. I freaking love Domino and Cable. And it’s so chock full of unexpected cameos, both celebrity and Marvel characters. I want to see it again.
