To be viewed by all, a tribute in the grand hall...

Welcome to the second annual Primetime TV Kappy Awards!

[and there was much rejoicing... yay.]

Wow. This one's coming to you pretty late in the game. Back on the static site, I used to do these the beginning of April. Last year, the first year that I moved them to the blog, I did them in the beginning of May. However, after being burned by a few shows that had great seasons and ended with lackluster finales, I thought it best to wait until everything was said and done. All shows off the air! And it feels so gooooood...

So here I am. Back with another year of awards for those TV shows that I feel deserve them.

Quick correction: shows that we feel deserve them. That's right. Katie's back for a second round of Primetime Award Show goodness.

So tune in, sit back, and don't change that channel! The awards will commence right after a word from our sponsor!

Snackieteevee

Um, so Snackie Teevee didn't really sponsor this awards show. But we're going to say she did because we desperately need the sponsor dollars. Wait'll she gets the bill in the mail. That should be fun!

And we're back!

Acting Awards:

Veteran Actor in a Drama –
Kevin: Do you think if we awarded this sooner, ABC wouldn't have canceled the show?
Katie: Yeah, right.
Kevin: Okay.

Winner: Dave Greco (Rick Gomez), What About Brian.

Veteran Actress in a Drama –
Kevin: Admittedly, I didn't like this show as much this year, save for these two women.
Katie: But we still both really like "The Nazi."

Winner: Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Grey's Anatomy.

Veteran Actor in a Comedy –
Katie: I do believe that goes to Jim in The Office!
Kevin: I do believe you are right.

Winner: Jim "Hey hey hey, it's Fat Halpert" Halpert (John Krasinski), The Office.

Veteran Actress in a Comedy –
Kevin: Could be what's her name from Earl.
Katie: Nah, she didn't do much for me this year.
Kevin: She was about the only good thing on the show this year.
Katie: Yeah, but still.
Kevin: How about Pam?
Katie: Okay, cool.

Winner: Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer), The Office.

Rookie Actor in a Drama –
Katie: Coach!
Kevin: That was easy.

Winner: Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler), Friday Night Lights.

Rookie Actress in a Drama –
Kevin: I'm letting Katie take this one for a show she watches and I plan to get into once the first season comes out on DVD.
Katie: Yay me!

Winner: Nora Walker (Sally Field), Brothers & Sisters.

Rookie Actor in a Comedy –
Kevin: And this one is going, uncontested, to...

Winner: Shawn Spencer (James Roday), Psych.

Rookie Actress in a Comedy –
Katie: I'm going to say the "smile girl."
Kevin: The what?
Katie: Betty. Crest just insured her smile for, like, $10 million.
Kevin: Seriously?
Katie: Yep.

Winner: Betty Suarez (American Ferrera), Ugly Betty.

Rookie Kiddies/Teens –
Katie: Justin from Ugly Betty, hands down.
Kevin: Yeah, any kid that can pull off showtunes in a subway.

Winner: Justin Suarez (Mark Indelicato), Ugly Betty.

Veteran Kiddies/Teens –
Kevin: I can't think of any.
Katie: That's because they all kinda suck.
Kevin: And the nays have it.

Winner: None.

One-Two Punch in a Drama –
Katie: All the guys from The Unit.
Kevin: Isn't that more of a one-two-three-four-five punch?
Katie: Semantics.

Winner: The guys from The Unit the names of which I'm too lazy to type in here.

One-Two Punch in a Comedy –
Katie: I believe we have a tie... Jim and Dwight from The Office, Shawn and Gus and Juliet from Psych, and Marc and Amanda from Ugly Betty.
Kevin: That's going a little overboard. Howsabout we pick one
Katie: That's too hard.
Kevin: Are we really going to give it to three shows?
Katie: You choose.
Kevin: Fine. Wimp.

Winner: Shawn Spencer (James Roday), Burton "Gus" Guster (Dule Hill), and Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson), Psych.

Ensemble Cast in a Drama –
Kevin: We could do What About Brian.
Katie: I was thinking Friday Night Lights.
Kevin: Oh, that's not bad.

Winner: Everybody from Friday Night Lights.

Ensemble Cast in a Comedy –
Katie: It's still good even despite all that cast changes and shifts in dynamic and the season finale rocked!
Kevin: Even though I'll be sad to see Rashida Jones go. She does have her own new series after all.

Winner: The cast of The Office.

Best Comeback –
Kevin: We have, as possibilities, Ricky Schroeder and Corbin Bernson.
Katie: I think we have to go with Mr. Silver Spoons. I only hope he will be able to see enough to come back next season.
Kevin: Me too. He was pretty darned good.

Winner: Mike Doyle (Ricky Schroeder), 24.

Best Recurring Guest Star Role
Kevin: I was thinking Henry from Ugly Betty, but he wound up joining the cast. How about the annoying friend from My Boys?
Katie: Trouty?
Kevin: Yeah, that's his name!

Winner: Trouty (Johnny Galecki), My Boys.

Best One-Off Guest Star Role –
Kevin: How about when Janitor from Scrubs showed up as the washed up Cubs pitcher in My Boys?
Katie: I liked him. Go for it.

Winner: Danny Finn (Neil Flynn), My Boys.

The Dark Alley Award –
Katie: We really haven't given anything to 24 yet.
Kevin: We didn't like it as much this season.
Katie: But he's still pretty bad ass.
Kevin: Yeah, I agree.

Winner: Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland), 24

Show Awards:

Best Veteran Drama –
Katie: Ummmm... by comparison to last year, they all kinda stunk.
Kevin: But we did start watching CSI again after giving it up last year.
Katie: Yeah, that was better this season.

Winner: CSI (the REAL one).

Best Veteran Comedy –
Katie: The Office or How I Met Your Mother?
Kevin: I'm thinking of those two, probably The Office?
Katie: Whatever you want.
Kevin: Whatever we want.
Katie: Okay.

Winner: The Office.

Best Rookie Drama –
Katie: Ugly Betty?
Kevin: Comedy.
Katie: Psych?
Kevin: Comedy.
Katie: I'm getting confused by all these hour-long comedies.
Kevin: Yeah, so much for airtime being a determiner of genre.

Winner: Brothers & Sisters.

Best Rookie Comedy –
Kevin: Could be The Class, My Boys, Psych, Ugly Betty, Rules of Engagement...
Katie: You're making this very difficult for me Kevin.
Kevin: Sorry. Not my intent.

Winner: Ugly Betty.

Best Reality Show –
Kevin: Definitely not Amazing Race.
Katie: It blew. Both of them.
Kevin: Miami Ink?
Katie: Nope. Time to fess up to our guilty pleasure.
Kevin: Really? We have to?
Katie: Yep.

Winner: Tori & Dean: Inn Love.

Kevin: I'm so ashamed.

Best Hometown Show -
Katie: There really aren't too many Chicago-based shows.
Kevin: Not nearly enough.

Winner: My Boys.

Best Show That Was Canceled Too Soon –
Katie: Still bitter even after two seasons.

Winner: What About Brian.

Biggest Drop Off in Quality –
Kevin: Is there enough time?

Winner(s): Amazing Race, NUMB3RS, My Name is Earl, Scrubs, Two and a Half Men, the list goes on.

Most Overstayed Welcome –
Katie: What's the difference here?
Kevin: This is the one that should be canceled NOW.
Katie: Ah.

Winner: Scrubs.

Lost in Left Field Award –
Katie: Oh, I remember this one.
Kevin: Yeah, last year it went to Nip/Tuck because it just got weird.
Katie: I'm thinking The Unit.
Kevin: Even though we gave it the One/Two Punch Award?
Katie: Yeah, but some of the episodes were just so strange.
Kevin: I agree.

Winner: The Unit.

Miscellaneous Awards:

Best Network –
Kevin: Count 'em.
Katie: ABC = 4; CBS = 8; NBC = 2 (and they're ones that only you watched, Heroes and Studio 60); USA = 1; TBS = 1; CW = 1.

Winner: CBS.

Worst Network –
Kevin: They didn't have the lowest count.
Katie: Nope.
Kevin: But they get a special "F.U." for canceling What About Brian.

Winner: ABC.

Kevin: Okay, that's enough until next year. Let's enjoy our TV-less summer.
Katie: We can't.
Kevin: Why?
Katie: We're watching Traveler; Miami Ink, when it starts back up; the spinoff, L.A. Ink; and My Boys in July.
Kevin: But it's still significantly fewer shows than normal.
Katie: True.

Bye bye.

You know something is wrong when the only game your softball team has won, so far, is by forfeit. Yeah, after a year off, I'm back to playing softball again. This time I'm playing 14" softball (never heard of that...

OK. How did you classify Sally Field in the Rookie category? Rookie show? Because she's done TV before. (As a kid, I loved The Flying Nun.)

I love how Psych picked up so many. And Trouty? How could you not love that character. That reminds me. I'm going to have to watch The Boys again real soon. (I saved the entire first season.)

This summer I'll be watching My Boys, Top Chef Miami, The Starter Wife (Hope it's decent.), and the second season of Hex.

Dave2

I give all the awards to Veronica Mars... CANCELLED by the bastards at WB this year.

Hilly

Nice props to Psych and the cast. I have to say that show is one that I actually look forward to sitting down and watching almost immediately after it records.

I started watching a new reality show yesterday called The Academy about the LA County Sherrif's Academy. It's better than half of the big time shows!

Ricky Schroeder - yes!

And ya know, I too am throwing a blank at "veteran kiddie/teen".

Snackie Teevee

Snackie TeeVee and the affiliates of Snackie TeeVee are mote than happy to sponsor your Kappy Awards.

suze

Come ON - poor Amanda and Marc were robbed. They're my favourite duo-dynamic on TV.

Also, where was the VMars love? My little blonde spunky heroine worship has been both cancelled and now denined...

MC

I didn't even really watch My Boys... but damn, you are right about Trouty.

Bec

Yay! Give it up for the Nazi!!!

NEVER thought I'd hear myself say that!

Karl

My Boys...great freaking show.

Bre

! So you are the other Tori and Dean fan out there! I was wondering who that was!

Erin

Trouty? Really? Heeheehee. I can't wait for S2!

Hey, that F.U. to ABC doesn't go to all the employees, right? Some of us are good people! :) Ugly Betty is known as a drama in these halls, partly because all hour-longs are called dramas, and also because it's more a drama with funny bits than a comedy. The really damn good season finale confirms its dramaness.

kapgar

Dagny, go fig, the one time I forget to clarify is the one time I'm called to task on it. "Rookie" and "veteran" are relative to the current show. "Rookie" being anything in its first season or an actor in their first year on a show. "Veteran" being anything or anyone on a show for more than one season.

Dave, I figured you would do just that.

Hilly, the kiddie categories are ones that I never should've developed because they're always tough to pick.

STV, thank you to the management!

suze, sorry. I wasn't into VM this season. Just didn't cut it for me.

MC, Trouty rocks! And welcome aboard!

Bec, yeah, I have difficulty saying that one, too.

Karl, wasn't it though?

Bre, yep, tis us.

Erin, of course Trouty! He's awesome. Nope, not to all the employees. Just the ones that made that decision.
