And the spies hide out in every corner...
And I hate everything about you...

It's hard to make the good things last...

Updated to add photo link and to remove failed Pictobrowser embed (whoops)

Suffice it to say that after seeing The Flaming Lips in concert last night at the 2009 Pitchfork Music Festival, I'm afraid that any live music experience I attend will pale in comparison. The only thing that could be better would be a longer show by The Lips.

Conclusion? The Flaming Lips = awesome. Festivals = crowded, but awesome. Pitchfork = I will be going to again, I don't care who's playing.

During the day, I Tweeted, snapped some photos, and captured a little video. Bear in mind that any photographic equipment with, as they called it, detachable lenses, was strictly forbidden. So all I had was my Blackberry. Translation? The quality isn't as good as it otherwise would be. I need to nab me one of those VIP passes next year. Those peeps all had the big cameras and I was jealous.

As for the rest of my recap, I'm going to let my evening's interactivity do the talking for me...

Photos - Apparently Pictobrowser doesn't want to work any more. Here's a teaser photo from the Flickr set:

Videos -

The Flaming Lips: Bubble o' Wayne from Kevin Apgar on Vimeo.

The Flaming Lips: Do You Realize? Finale from Kevin Apgar on Vimeo.

Tweets - And, finally, the Tweets. Bear in mind, the correct order is from the bottom up. I could've reordered them for your convenience. But your convenience is my inconvenience and anybody who uses Twitter knows how it works and can adapt accordingly. Sheesh. ;-)

Okay, time for work. Adios!

Sweet!! I enjoyed the Tweet-show. :-) Have never seen The Lips in concert... have always wanted to!

Sizzle

Glad you had a fun time!

Less than a week until we meet. WOOT!

Marie

I saw your tweets yesterday and after a couple of them I finally figured out you were headed to a concert.

Concerts like that are just worth the crowds and ticket prices. SO worth it!

kapgar

It's a can't-miss. If you ever have the opportunity to see them in your neck o' the woods, go! If you happen to see that they're in the Chicago area when you'll be in town, you have my phone number!

kapgar

BIG WOOT!!!

kapgar

I think Katie wouldn't have liked it because she hates being packed in and she wouldn't have been able to see over any of the heads. But I'm 6'1" so I fit in fine. I LOVED IT!

SoMi's Nilsa

Thank goodness Sizzle isn't in town on the same day as the flaming lips. Because then, I'm quite certain you just might be a no-show to our little shindig.

Kevin Spencer

Wow, first Marty and his The Panic Channel post, now you with your Flaming Lips post. Bands I've never even heard of. And I call myself a music fan. Good lord. Which FL album would you recommend to this total noob?

Sybil Law

I saw the Flaming Lips about... hmm... 10 - 13 years ago? at a local place, and it was the WORST concert. Then again, I was there with a friend who I figured out was a lesbian and she thought I was her date. So it was awkward all around.
Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed the show. Certainly seems like they've gotten better!

Beyond Alice

Oh my gosh...I get to see the Flaming Lips for the first time next month and I am SOOOO freaking excited!!!!

kapgar

Actually, before knowing exactly when she would be here, I invited her
to go to Pitchfork with me. ;-)

kapgar

I can understand not knowing Panic Channel. Hell, I haven't either.
But The Flaming Lips? You of all people have to know Do You Realize or
the Yeah Yeah Yeah Song.

kapgar

Lips are an acquired taste and company can certainly affect how it
goes for you. I was with my buddy Eric, and altough we think some
people probably thought we were there together, we had no such
expectations for each other. ;-)

My favorite (and only owned album) by the Flaming Lips is "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" It has the song "Do You Realize" on it, which you may have heard from a Land Rover commercial back in 2007.

Discovering new music is pretty cool. This is why we blog and read other's blogs (well, at least it is for me)

FWIW, I didn't know who Combichrist was before you blogged about them.

kapgar

Is it part of a festival or a concert dedicated to The Lips? If the former, color me excited for you as well. If the latter, I'm jealous because now I want to see a Lips show where they get more than just an hour and a quarter to play. Wayne told us that he'd have been willing to play for three more hours and just sit there and "make shit up" with us if they could've struck a deal with the police and neighbors. I sooooo wanted that to happen. Either way, you're gonna have a blast.

kapgar

And the "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" was on a commercial more recently as well. Combichrist was beyond me by a long shot.

Beyond Alice

It's a concert just for the Lips - I hope they will play for hours and hours!!!!

kapgar

You are sooo lucky. Now that I know what their shows are like, I'm going to be sure to look out for their return to Chicagoland. Enjoy it!

if you need help with PictoBrowser, you just need to email diego@db798.com

He's pretty fast responding
