More than meets the eye...
Happy Snippet Wednesday and Happy @kapgar Day!
Cobaxl
Steven Hyden of The Onion's A/V Club wrote a fantastic piece on the long-running feud between Axl Rose of Guns 'n' Roses and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana during the transition period from the metal era to grunge. I knew there was animosity between the two of them, but I had no idea how deep its roots were. If you like music history, check this piece out. Thanks to @petcobra for the tip.
Moon
I saw the first Transformers movie and enjoyed it. Never saw the second and never wanted to. Only want to see the third because of how much of the filming was done in Chicago and the fact that I actually saw it as it was happening. But, let me tell you, if film titles were the sole determiner when deciding if I was seeing a movie or not, Transformers: Dark of the Moon certainly would have me running for the hills.
I must offer my sincerest apologies to George Lucas. The Phantom Menace is no longer the dumbest movie title of all time.
Netflix
I received an e-mail from Netflix informing me that they were sending me the next available film in my queue. It was the second film in the list since the first was on a short wait. Then, a day later, I got another e-mail telling me my first choice was available at a downstate distribution center and they were sending it to me as well. So my three-disc subscription was going to temporarily become a four-disc subscription. A way to keep users happy? Has this happened to anyone else?
iPhone
I've been using my iPhone 4 for two months now and I really need to get cracking on a review of what I think. There's just so much I want to say. I may have to spread it out over a couple posts or run the risk of having a post that reads like a novel. Yikes!
Typepad
This is the second time I wrote this post. The first time, I forgot to give it an interim save and the browser froze up. What I don't get is that Typepad has an autosave feature kinda like Microschlock Word and it constantly annoys me by telling me that it has a saved copy of a post that I already published a few days prior. Of course, the time that my browser freezes is the one time that the autosave feature kicks in only to save the title and nothing in the post. This makes no sense since I came up with the title after I wrote two and a half snippets. What gives?
Shows
So what shows have all of you given up on this new television season? There are a couple that we're thinking of ditching and wondering if any of you may have the same opinion. Please share!
Okay, I'm outta here. Time to catch up on the season finale of Mad Men.
Netflix has done that for me a couple of times. Nice!

It kinda caught me off guard. Now I just have to remember to send back all four. The responsibility is too much for me!!!

Netflix has never done that for me....sniffle. But I have fallen in love with the instant viewings through the Wii. That's awesome and I might even drop my disc delivery to one instead of two. We'll see though.
Becca and I have really enjoyed Lie to Me until this season. Tim Roth has become way too neurotic for us to deal with and because of it we no longer look forward to the episodes we record. Same can be said for Ace of Cakes, Biggest Loser and The Office. They are all still great shows but for us they are no longer "must watch".
However, in their place we have been watching Castle and The Good Guys. Plus I've picked up Outsourced and The Event. It's become "what have you done for me lately" TV viewing for us. Once your show starts to suck, we're done.

There's just not enough stuff available on Instant Watch yet for me to get too excited about it. Never watched Lie to Me. Never really appealed to me. But I do agree that The Office just isn't the same anymore. We still watch but not with the enthusiasm we once had for it and now have for Big Bang Theory and Modern Family.

I stopped watching Shit My Dad Says, Outsourced, and the Undercovers. I have too much on my plate to watch mediocrity. Aside from the Office, of course.

I had no desire to watch any of those and am honestly surprised they're still airing new eps. What else do you watch?
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 21 October 2010 at 10:30 AM
netflix never did that for me, but when i thought i lost a movie they didn't charge me and pretty much said, woops, the mail sucks sometimes. i thought that was way cool. and then i found the movie. woops, i suck sometimes!

I'm definitely going to read that feuding piece. I saw a clip of my boyfriend, Dave Grohl, asking for Axl after they trashed their set - he said it repeatedly, and apparently it was because they wanted to fight him.
My money was on Dave Grohl. Haha of course.
I don't think I've watched a single new show, so no help there.

No on the Netflix thing. You must be special! (and not in that "lick the bus window kind of way"
I will see and purchase the 3rd Transformers movie because, well, I'm a sucker. I LOVED the first one and just like Resident Evil, I watch and collect them no matter how crappy they get. I mean, not having Megan Fox is going to suck and that VS model they replaced her with looks like Angelina Jolie's lip double. Ewwwww.
Words for free -- Dude, are you messing with me? Playing 3 letter words? Did you quit playing me and hand your phone to a monkey? :P
Shows --- ummm.. I HATE Penelope with that icky red hair and her attitude has changed. She's just not as fun. I'd rather watch Abby on NCIS. I don't watch a lot of regular season TV. I try to catch TBBT if I remember. I watch A LOT of Criminal Minds and NCIS in rerun heaven.

And here I thought "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo" was the worst sequel title of all time.
There's so little good as far as new shows go this season. Most of it isn't so much awful as it is generic and meh. Gave up on Chase a while back (after only 2 eps). I'm gonna watch another episode or two of The Event before deciding its fate.

Despite the fact I like so many of the actors in The Event, I just couldn't bring myself to watch it.

Hey! When the game gives you shit letters and no place to play them, you do what you can to survive.

Axl strikes me as small, yet a scrapper. However he always seems to not really get into it when you'd expect him to.
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 21 October 2010 at 01:24 PM
They've always been great about lost and damaged discs for me too.
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 21 October 2010 at 01:24 PM
Awesome Axl & Kurt article, I had no idea either.

The second Transformers movie was dissapointing. I hope the next one is better!
Now, there is a problem I have not had with wordpress ;)

I'd love to see more about music rivalries.
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 21 October 2010 at 02:17 PM
Luckily my memory is pretty decent and I got all the snippets I wanted.
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 21 October 2010 at 02:18 PM
Tonight alone I have the Big Bang Theory, Community, 30 Rock, the Office, Vampire Diaries (sorry), The Mentalist, and Jersey Shore (sorry again.)
Posted by: Amanda | Thursday, 21 October 2010 at 09:28 PM
Wow, you have a busy Thursday. Of those, we watch BBT, 30R, and The Office. I still don't like BBT being on Thursdays. That really sucks. Our busy night is, oddly enough, Tuesday... NCIS, NCIS: LA, The Good Wife, and No Ordinary Family (one that's on the brink for us; not bad, but not necessarily good enough to keep watching).

We gave up on The Event after two episodes. I am THISCLOSE to giving up on Glee. It is trying to hard and in the process, trying my patience.
I am in love with Modern Family. I could watch that every night.
Posted by: Sizzle | Wednesday, 27 October 2010 at 10:38 AM
We're too new to Glee to give up yet but I can understand your frustration. Modern Family stays on our TiVo so we can watch it whenever.

In the 11 years I've been a Netflix member, that's never happened for me. Someday.
I look forward to your iPhone review.

It's funny because I imagine you saying "someday" with an air of exasperation. Like I'm just lazy as hell. ;-)

You have your iPhone review, I have my videos and Cooper posts to get caught up on. From those around me that have the iPhone 4, they love it. Best phone they have ever owned.

I've also got about a dozen stop motion videos of my own that I'd love to find time to do.
