It's alright if you love me, it's alright if you don't...
You know what? I'm not going to call this a Snippet Thursday: The Reckoning. Nope, not this time. I'll just call it a Belated Snippet Wednesday. Does that work for you?
Takeover
There are groups of people out there who fear that the United States is being overrun with immigrants or people of different races, religions, creeds, whatnot. Obviously these people are all kinds of whack in the head. They are fearing the wrong thing entirely. You wanna know what I'm afraid is going to take over our fair country? THE DUGGARS! Damn, the kids are having kids now. Another pregnancy was announced this morning on the Today Show. The growth of the family is going to be exponential from this point forward. It's only a matter of time before EVERYBODY in the USA is a minority to the Duggar clan. I can see it now... The United States of Duggar... I pledge allegiance to the Duggars...
Help.
Uno
Yesterday, my Tweep kimt205 Tweeted about an e-mail she received that asked the following...
I agree, that's a good question. And it's one that can expand to more than just Twitter users. For those of you who are Facebook junkies or blog readers... what if you could only follow one person on those platforms as well? Who would it be?
No, I'm not fishing for you all to say, "You Kevin! Of course it's you!" I'm genuinely curious how all of you would answer. And, yet, it's a question I'm unable to repond to personally. I really don't know if I could do it. You?
Nooooooo
I love my wife. She's so cute. Take last night, for example. We went upstairs to see what recorded on the TiVo. Being Wednesday, she was expecting to find recordings of the latest Modern Family and Cougar Town. Imagine her dismay when there was nothing.
Me: Sorry hon. Nothing new.
Her: Noooooooooooooo!!!!
Me: Obviously they're on a break week.
Her: Noooooooooooooo!!!!
But you have to imagine her whining that word with a little kid's petulence and an oversize frown stretching across her face.
I do love her.
Ponzi
I've decided that the only way I'm going to survive in this economy and make my millions so I can retire by my desired age of 40 is to start my own Ponzi Scheme. Does anybody know how to initiate an effective Ponzi Scheme? Would you like in at the ground level? I'll share my profits. Just sign your name to all the associated start-up documents and we'll be rich in no time. Deal? Anybody?
Challenge
I'm thinking about starting up another Kapgar Photo Scavenger Hunt (No, this has nothing to do with my Ponzi Scheming). It's actually been a good six months now since the start of the last one and my initial plan was to do it every six. So much for that. But I can still get it close enough for government work.
My question to you, though, is should I run it in December or wait until the new year? On the one hand, we can get some pretty cool holiday photos. But on the flip side of that, you'll be contending with holidays and vacations and may have difficulty posting photos by the given deadlines. So, what say you? December Holiday Edition of the Kapgar Photo Scavenger Hunt or kick it off in 2011? Majority rules on this one.
Oh, and if it helps with the decision process, I plan to allow people to just post links to their photos on Flickr or other photo sharing sites instead of having to write it up as a blog post. So those of you with cameras in your phones can just post on the go, too. Does this affect your decision at all?
Snippets
Do you now see why I love Snippet posts? Absolutely no relation between the items I'm talking about whatsoever. Just completely random thoughts floating through my nogging now shared with the world via the wonder of the World Wide Web.
Sure, it's a train wreck of ideas, but I don't care. Do you?
The Duggars give me nightmares, too! Pretty soon it'll be just inbreeding with them, since they're gonna take over the world!
I would follow the Foo Fighters. That's my one pick. Everything else I can find out elsewhere. :)
I'm so up for a round of picture taking, even though I sucked the big one last time.

Yay, photo scavenger hunt!! December works for me mate.
Posted by: Kevin Spencer | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 01:24 PM
if i had to give up all but one blog, twitter account, etc. there is no way i would want to do it so i would give them all up. couldn't pick one so i would follow none. sad to think about.
so on to the happy. i think the photo scavenger hunt thingy sounds like fun! color me in whenever. ount care!

Hmm, just 1 person on twitter? That's tough. I'd probably go for something practical though rather than personal. @ThinkGeek or @amazonmp3 probably, or maybe @DalaiLama if I was feeling virtuous. Pretty sure it'd be something on my tips list though.
FB I'd probably stop using altogether. No wait, I'd pick the bud who convinced me to sign up in the first place so I can kind of keep track of what country he's in.
It'd be a lot harder to pick one blog.
Posted by: claire | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 01:57 PM
But what if there was an account for the Foo Fighters that was updated constantly and an account for Dave Grohl personally that was only updated on occasion but had promise? Then who would you choose?
And you so did not suck the first round. You blew. HA! ;-)
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 03:47 PM
I was hoping you'd be excited by it. December is the way I'm leaning too. You cool with mobile uploading as well?
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 03:48 PM
So that's a vote for whatever winds up being the majority vote. And I think I might have to give up most of the activity online as well.
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 03:49 PM
I thought about Amazon or ThinkGeek, but why bother since I get them via RSS and e-newsletter as well. I'd need to figure out an account I can't get anywhere else and stick to that. And I have no idea who that would be.
Posted by: kapgar | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 03:50 PM
I'm interested in trying the photo scavanger hunt and December sounds good to me. Fair warning, though, I didn't participate last time because I was overwhelmed by the lyric interpretation aspect.
Posted by: Ren | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 04:37 PM
Do yourself a favor and check out some of the old entries. You can find them in my archives under Photo Challenge category. The lyrical interpretation is only as difficult as you make it. Some of the interpretations were complex while some were very simplistic. It's really all up to you. But I will tell you that I plan to stick with lyrics as it's kinda my thing (Yanno with my whole blog post titling system and all). There is no right or wrong with the interpretations. I just like to see how people do it and would love to see your take. Lastly, it's not going to be all or none. You participate as you see fit. One picture every other week or all three every week. Cool?

I was thinking I could play/enter ThinkGeeks occasional twitter contests that way.
In your case, maybe if you found someone behind something you really enjoy. I like reading Shonda Rhimes tweets, e.g., because she answers q's and relays facts about Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. Ooh, if I went with that criteria, I'd probably go with Amanda Palmer- she'd be a lot of bang for a single twitter buck.
Posted by: claire | Thursday, 11 November 2010 at 05:44 PM
Who's Amanda Palmer?
Posted by: kapgar | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 08:32 AM
Duggars...just wrong
Photo Scavanger hunt ... I had intentions...never came through...I would be happy to have intentions again
Follow just one...would have to be my own blog. Mainly because that way I am not playing favorites to anyone else I read anywhere, and because I normally forget what I write about within 24 hrs so it is always new to me.
I have a great idea to help you get your Ponzi scheme off the ground. It will take a little investment though. Send me $1000 and once it is going I will send you monthly checks with interest. Tell your friends to get me some money too and I will make them the same deal. We will all be RICH!
Posted by: Bob "Pappy" Richardson | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 08:56 AM
But tell me, if you follow only yourself, will you comment and reply?
Posted by: kapgar | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 09:42 AM
That would of course depend on if my blog post was any good, and whether or not my comments to myself were worth commenting back to.
Posted by: Bob "Pappy" Richardson | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 10:31 AM
Photo Hunt again? Did I hear that right?!?!? Music to my ears :) I am game for BOTH! What if this time we had to pick our own lyrics???
Posted by: Becca | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 10:48 AM
Yeah that's a risk you might have to take though.
Posted by: kapgar | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 10:58 AM
That would make it tough to have any thematic element to everyone's shots or to look and see how everyone else interpreted them. But I might consider taking suggestions for lyrics from people and using them in the challenge. I do want everyone working off the same lyrics or it's not a true scavenger hunt in the shared experience sense of it all.
Posted by: kapgar | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 11:00 AM
I had great intentions to do the scavenger hunt last time and failed. I want to do it this time and redeem myself, but don't care what the date is. December works for me!

Sweet! Happy to have you aboard.

She's a musician, both a solo artist and lead singer of the Dresden Dolls. Often does ninja gigs (short, free concerts) and live webcasts of concerts or impromptu q&a's that she announces on twitter.
Comes from a busking background and is finding ways to use that approach with the fan base she's developed over the years now that she's finally free of her label. A fascinating, intelligent, eccentric, sexy, motivated person. She also happens to be engaged to Neil Gaiman.
Posted by: claire | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 02:01 PM
Interesting. I've heard of Dresden Dolls but am not really familiar with their music. I might have to check her out even though I have no idea what "busking" is. When you said "Amanda Palmer," I was having visions of someone Tweeting as the dead girl from Twin Peaks. Not the same name, though, is it?
Posted by: kapgar | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 02:14 PM
Her 1st solo album was "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?" which is a riff on Twin Peaks' Laura Palmer. :) She also made a companion WKAP book full of shots of her dead in various ways with essays.
If not for her, I wouldn't know what "busking" is either. It's just when artists/musicians perform on the street and accept donations. She was an 8 ft. tall living bride statue in Boston or Cambridge for a few years.
Posted by: claire | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 07:49 PM
Okay, now I'm very intrigued. Laura Palmer! Hey I was close. And for a guy who never got into Twin Peaks, that's not bad.
Posted by: kapgar | Friday, 12 November 2010 at 09:57 PM
The whole point of Twitter/blogging/Facebook, in my opinion, is the sense of community, so trying to pick one person only would defeat the purpose of it existing in any capacity. Question is rejected!

I missed the last scavenger hunt and December might be tough. Still, look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
Posted by: Karlerikson | Wednesday, 17 November 2010 at 11:58 AM
Leave it to a lawyer. ;-)
Posted by: kapgar | Wednesday, 17 November 2010 at 02:37 PM
You won't have to do it each and every time based on the rules I'm developing. Let me know what you think when I announce them.
Posted by: kapgar | Wednesday, 17 November 2010 at 02:42 PM
There is no way that I could pick just one Tweep to follow.
Ponzi scheme ideas... it could involve something LEGO, where you agree to send out LEGO minifigs to others but then we never get them because they were lost in shipping. But your impeccable track record with those of us that have received them would rule out that scheme right away. :-)
And this time I promise to actually make time and participate in a photo scavenger hunt. I vote for December, even though it's a busy time of the year for most. Then a follow up for winter-into-spring for 2011.

LEGO ponzi scheme?? You are genius!
