I told you I was troubled...
In what may likely be classified the least surprising bit of news to come down the pipeline, singer Amy Winehouse was found dead this morning in her home. She was 27 years old.
Yet, while I'm not at all surprised by this, it doesn't make me any less upset by it. I wanted her to turn things around. Why? People deserve second chances, although you could argue she blew that about a half dozen or more chances ago.
I guess I just didn't want to lose out on her voice this early in her career. I LOVE her voice. Despite how messed up she might be personally, she was truly talented.
At the very least, I hoped she was just *so* screwed up that she would prove indestructible like Keith Richards.
C'est la vie.
R.I.P. Amy. I hope your troubles have met with some kind of resolution.
Oh, and welcome to the 27 Club. Say hi to Kurt, Jimi, Jim, and Janis. Tell them they're missed.
Jim Morrison died at 27 too. I heard about an interview he gave that said he pretty much knew he was going to die now that he was 27, just like Jimi and Janis.

I knew Jim did too but didn't know if people would get the reference if I just said "Jim." there are several others as well. I thought Jeff Buckley was a 27er too but he made it to 30.

It's always sad to see someone destroy their life like this. She had so much to live for. I'm not a fan, but it's still very sad.

I agree completely. Save for our fandom, of course.

She really had a fantastic voice. Shame what drugs does to some people!! RIP Amy.

It really is sad and I'm selfishly upset that there will be no more music from her as I, too, loved her voice. Addiction is such a vicious beast. It's tragic that we as a society criminalize it or, in the case of celebrities, make fun of it or aggrandize it.

Shame indeed.

The other crime is how easily we let them get away with it. How many people TRULY try to help addicted celebrities? Not a lot.

As I wrote on Dave2's blog, her music wasn't really my cup of tea but there's no denying what a fantastic talent she was. Did you read Russell Brand's tribute? Very eloquent actually.

I did read Brand's tribute and it really was eloquent and heartfelt. Shocking.

These musicians that join the 27 club are getting too numerous. While she had her fall down moments, her music will live on as wonderful.

I wholeheartedly agree.
