Show me the side streets in your mind...
I've been getting pretty bad about this whole blogging thing. Well, maybe not "bad" so much as "severely freakin' inconsistent." One week, I might post four or five times. Or it might be like the last month where I've posted, maybe, once a week. INSPIRE ME!!!
Cali
Well, I guess I have some excuse for not blogging late last week and into the early part of this week because Katie and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary out in San Francisco. It was such an amazing trip. It was actually our fourth time in the area, that's how much we love it there. I did take a bunch of pictures and I swear I will get them posted to Flickr soon. I do have a few up there already from my Instagramming efforts, but nothing from my D-SLR just yet.
TiVo
We've had nothing but problems with one of our HD TiVos. It keeps glitching out on us and missing recordings. I've called TiVo and they're very quick to blame Comcast and their cable cards. Comcast, however, has gone the extra mile and sent out technicians to diagnose the problem as opposed to blindly blaming. No, I wouldn't seriously expect TiVo to have local technicians, but it would certainly be nice if they had more ability to troubleshoot remotely. Well, I got tired of it and now we've canceled out the dying TiVo in favor of a Comcast DVR. We'll actually be saving money and getting more hard drive space and better compatibility since we will no longer have to rely on those damn cable cards. Praise be the baby lemurs!
Jetpacks
I'm so happy! A couple weeks ago, one of my favorite bands in recent years, We Were Promised Jetpacks, released a new album titled In the Pit of the Stomach. I wasn't even expecting it as, a couple months ago, I looked around and saw nothing about it. Just a very happy surprise on iTunes. Yay!
Björk
Another new release of note is the album Biophilia by her Icelandic majesty, Björk! This was a big deal album because Björk announced she was releasing the first iPad app enabled album. Yep, she's got a different app for each song. Bear in mind, though, that I do not have an iPad so I don't really care about the apps so much (sure, they can be used on an iPhone, but they're optimized for an iPad). But the weird thing is that, despite this iPad claim, the album was not made available in its first couple weeks of release to either iTunes or the Amazon MP3 Store. Say whaaaa?? There is one online store carrying it and, otherwise, it's only available in physical disc format. That just makes no sense to me whatsoever. Good album, though.
OS
Everybody's going all sorts of ga-ga over the recent releases of the new Mac OS X as well as iOS 5 for the iPhone and iPad. A coworker downloaded them immediately and I've seen Tweets from several other friends that they've nabbed them up. Well, not me. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple and their products and both of these new OSs have some damn cool features. But I'm not a fan of OS upgrades. The decimal updates don't bother me one bit (say OS X.4.1 to OS X.4.2 or the like), but skipping up a whole integer terrifies me. I can't rationally explain why other than to link you to Dave's site and say that this is what I expect to happen to me. And Dave is far more capable at fixing this sort of thing than I. It took me more than a year to upgrade Katie's MacBook to Snow Leopard and I'm only now getting used to it. I can wait on Lion.
Rainbow
I posted this to both Twitter and Google+ last week, but thought I would share it here as well... A coworker was looking up a nearby business for work purposes and was checking them out on Google Maps to find their location. When he did so, he found that the satellite photographing the area captured a small jet flying by. No big deal, except that the motion blur behind the plane was rainbow colored. Very awesome!
I'm off to continue watching the season premiere of The Walking Dead. Have a great night!
I'm EXACTLY the same way about the Apple upgrades!! I don't mind the small ones, but I'm not doing the big OS upgrades. Especially to my iphone. When the iphone 5 comes out, I'm going to just go ahead and purchase it. When I upgraded my 3G OS to 4, the phone started screwing up. It would freeze on me, be very slow and almost unusable until it crapped out at which point I went out and got the iphone 4. I'm worried the same is going to happen this time around so I haven't upgraded to OS 5.
Apparently I can go on and on about this.
I didn't know The Walking Dead was back on! I'll need to catch up!

Love "The Walking Dead." Great show. And I'm not updating my iPhone 4 until 5.1 comes out.

No denying that the iOS upgrade was a major disaster for me. Apple IDs are still hopelessly screwed up and, of course, there's no support whatsoever from Apple on that. And it's not like an Apple ID is important... I mean it's only the one thing that defines who you are and what you do with Apple. Crazy.

I'm sure I'll do it before the iPhone 5 comes out. Maybe over the holidays. We shall see.

Not a bad way to do it.

I just don't understand how Apple IDs got screwed up. That's just, well, screwed up in and of itself.

I did the iPad 2 and iPhone 3GS upgrade to iOS 5 right away. This surprises me and others because I normally wait a long time to upgrade. Took me over a year to go from Leopard to Snow Leopard. But this time around, I was able to find a custom firmware for my prepaid SIM that I use on the 3GS. I am fence sitting on the whole iCloud thing, which I will be blogging about soon (more syncing screw ups).
No DVR in the house here. We will have one someday, perhaps if we ever move to satellite TV.
Love to see all of the photos you care to share with us from your anniversary trip to San Fran. I love that city and it's been 3 years too long since I was last there.
And finally, there is now a link to the new Björk album (sans iPad/iPhone app).

Good album so far. Really like it.

It's reassuring to know I'm not only OS procrastinator. Thanks for the Björk link. I hadn't looked recently.

Oh, I think I'm just as bad if not worse when it comes to posting frequency. Mate, I really don't know where the last week and a half have gone. I mean, see how long it's taken me to comment on this entry? Only today am I trying to wade through my backlog of feeds. It's overwhelming.
I upgraded to Lion and love it. Haven't really bothered with iOS 5 to tell you the truth. In a few weeks I'll probably be upgrading my 3GS to a 4S so that's when I'll have a play with the new phone OS.

I know Lion won't happen for quite some time but I may bite the bullet on iOS5 this weekend if I find the time. Maybe even tomorrow. Some cool stuff available for it.
