Soon it will all be over...

Welcome to June!

Wow. Yeah, I just said "June." Katie and I are having a baby in less than three and a half months. Where'd the time go? Not that I want it to stop. We both are really excited about this new chapter, but it doesn't feel like we've been given enough time to enjoy this growing-inside-the-belly phase of the game.

Oy! Well, being that it's June 1, I need to recap my progress on my New Year's Resolutions.

1. Meet a neighbor and remember their name beyond that one meeting
Zilch.

2. Read 20 books
This has been continuing to slow down a bit with each passing month. I still haven't progressed any more on Ellis' Glamorama and I'm in a holding pattern with Stephenson's Snow Crash. This is mostly because I received a loaner from a friend at the gym of Jonathan Eig's Get Capone, a book I've been looking forward to since I heard about it last year. I'm about halfway to two-thirds through it and hope to finish soon so I can re-tackle those other two plus a new one I just found out about recently called Blood Feud all about the Hatfields and McCoys. Yes, I'm watching the History Channel miniseries and have been completely sucked in by the history of it all.

BTW, came to the idea that three (3) of the Kirkman/Adlard volumes of The Walking Dead will count as one book. I think that's fair. That's about 480 pages of comic and most of the books I read are 300ish. Overall, I think that puts me at 6 or 7 books completed toward this resolution.

3. Listen to one new band per month
Since I screwed up last month and mentioned the wrong band (The Cloud Nothings instead of Of Monsters and Men as originally planned), I'm going to make up for it this month by reviewing them both. I haven't written either of them up yet, but I will do it this weekend or sometime next week. Actually, I have an idea for another part-time theme post day and will likely do both of these album reviews then in addition to one or two others. So stay tuned.

4. Finish watching through season 5 of Doctor Who
I just realized that my resolution was only to get me through season 5, but Netflix Instant Watch now has season 6 available as well. Should I expand the resolution or stick to it as is? I think I'll officially stick to it as is, but if I get through season 6... bonus!

Currently I'm through episode 7 of season 3. Not bad. Still loving the David Tennant/Freema Agyeman pairing. And I loved the two parter with the Daleks taking over Manhattan during the Great Depression. Hard to believe that was Andrew Garfield (our new Spider-Man) costarring in those episodes.

5. Learn how to make homemade pasta
Zip.

6. Try one new recipe per week
Again, not really sticking to the "per week" schedule, but still attempting multiple different recipes throughout the month. This month's recipes include banana buttermilk pancakes (WIN!), roasted tomato pasta sauce (WIN!), pico de gallo (GANA!), a berry pie with a new crust-making method (WIN!), and oatmeal cookies (not-so-win). Hey, you can't win them all. But 80% ain't bad.

7. Continue my 365 days of photography challenges
Get it. Got it? Good.

Have a good weekend, y'all! I will be back to regular posting next week as I shake off a bad case of vacation head from this past week.

Wake up to find print is dead...

May 30
Print is dead. It pains me to say that, but it is and I'm finding myself shockingly willing to accept its demise. Adios. Arrivederci. Adieu. Auf Wiedersehen. Aloha. Bye. In December, when Katie and I got our iPads, we started...

Where do we go from here...

When I was a kid, one of my favorite games to play when going on a road trip with my family was the good ol' License Plate Game. You know the game, don't you? While your parents are driving to...

I do have that.

Marty Mankins

My wife and I have talks - regular talks, mind you, about my love of books and my lack of reading any of them. She gives me so much shit about buying books that I want to read, I start them, and then they never get finished. She's actually finished a few of them. For my TINTFA 2012 items, it's the one thing that I really thought I would have done well with since my goal to be a writer would include me reading more books. I excepted to have 5 books read. I might just shock everyone and have 6 read before the end of June (just to get caught up).
