Games without frontiers...
For obvious reasons (well, actually just one reason, really), New Year's Resolutions sorta fell by the wayside this month.
I will do better. I hope. Oh heck, I can't really say. Life is in a state of change right now. Who knows what will happen on any given day, right? Such is parenthood.
Here's my September recap all the same.
1. Meet a neighbor and remember their name beyond that one meeting
Done.
2. Read 20 books
Not so hot here either. While I did finish volumes 10-12 of Kirkman, Adlard, and Rathburn's The Walking Dead, I only got through the first 80 pages of George R.R. Martin's The Game of Thrones. So, overall, I think I'm at about 18 books read now. Not bad if I do say so myself, even if my reading rate has slowed a bit.
3. Listen to one new band per month
I'm currently in the process of listening to some Jesus and Mary Chain (it's old but it's something I never listened to back in the day), Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra, Baroness, and The Royal Concept. I haven't finished listening to any of them just yet, though.
4. Finish watching through season 5 of Doctor Who
I watched the Christmas episode from season 4 aboard the Titanic. Some cool characters including one played by Kylie Minogue, but kinda weird.
5. Learn how to make homemade pasta
Nope. But we did find some recipes for what we want to try and were inspired by a killer batch of pumpkin tortellini that our friends Graham and Kristy made us. REALLY GOOD STUFF.
6. Try one new recipe per week
Nothing at all. Been too worried about making sure Katie's stomach was not unsettled during the final couple weeks of pregnancy and during the first couple weeks of nursing with Nathan that we didn't really try cooking much. And now we have all kinds of meals given to us by friends and family that I'm not sure when we're going to have to cook again.
7. Continue my 365 days of photography challenge
insty366 is going strong.
8. Post monthly updates on my progress
Covered.
I'll be back soon. Well, how about we settle on soonish.
You have been rocking it with the photos, that's for sure. And now have another reason to post even more.
Curious to hear your feedback on Jesus and Mary Chain. They were on constant rotation for me back in the late 80's / early 90's.

I had heard of them but never heard them. Not sure how that happened but I guess it could be attributed to my love of hair metal around that time period.

Next months 20 new books ought to be a cinch! Might I suggest "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie", "Mama, Do You Love Me?", "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", "Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes", "The Little Red Hen", "The Little Engine That Could", "The Three Bears", "I Love You Through and Through", "My Mother Gave Me The Moon", "Swimmy", "Corduroy", "The Pokey Little Puppy",
"The Three Little Kittens", "Clifford", "The Big Red Dog", "Daddy and Me", Baby Einstein "Halloween", "Leo the Late Bloomer","Blueberries for Sal", and I even have a copy of "Little Black Sambo" you can borrow from my childhood! I have every confidence you'll get those books read n the month of OCTOBER!!!
Love,
your mother-in-law

I've finally hit my reading stride and I'm now on book 3 of the series- Storm Of Swords. Stick with Game Of Thrones it gets really good. I can't wait to hear what you think of it when you're done. I predict you'll be hooked and continue with the others just like I'm trying to do ;-)

I've enjoyed what I've read so far. Just having trouble finding time to read lately. Can't figure out why. ;-)

It's funny, I used SoundHound the other day to ID a song for me that came on the radio that I remembered from my teenage years, and lo and behold it was a Jesus and Mary Chain song.
If you want to knock out two of those resolutions this month, it's sort of a cheat, but spaghetti squash is in season and super easy to prepare. Then you can have (faux-) pasta and a new recipe!

I was already planning on making the pasta attempt be one of our weekly recipes. And I think we became more motivated to make our own pasta when a family friend made us a platter of pumpkin tortellini as a "welcome to parenthood" meal. Fantastic stuff.
