I really enjoyed how I changed the final Snippet Wednesday of last year into my New Year's Resolution kickoff.
The only thing I'm changing this year is to exclude use of the phrase "New Year's Resolution." I really don't like that at all.
Instead, welcome to my 2013 Goal Post (get it, you football fans?). So read on. They aren't necessarily as ambitious as they were in 2012.
First a quick note, after three years of trying to take and post photos every day, I'm done. It's a hassle. Generally it's pretty easy to take a photo each day, but, on those rare days when I forget until the tail end of the day, it gets kinda stressful finding some random item around the house of which to take a picture and make it at least semi-interesting. So I'm done with this.
1. Convert old site to Typepad
As you know, this blog has been in existence since around June 15, 2005. What you may not know is that I've been keeping an online journal since 1998 when I first learned HTML in grad school. At first, I was handcoding it all and then I switched to using Macromedia (now Adobe) Dreamweaver. Whatever the case, there exists seven years worth of posts that I still have backed up on an external storage device and I think it might be kinda cool to find and list them here backdating to the appropriate date. I cannot guarantee that links would work so I may just eliminate them entirely. I also don't have the music lyric titles for each post so they will likely have something generic. I'm curious what I wrote about and how my writing has evolved (or devolved). Stay tuned.
2. Read the entire run of Kirkman's Invincible
I really don't want to set a 20-book goal again. So, instead, I want to catch up on a series that was recommended to me by Dave2 of which I've only ever read issue no. 1. As of right now, there are 97 issues and that number will grow as the series is ongoing on a monthly basis, so I'd better get started. Comixology, may you have some sales! BTW, this goal was originally going to be Gaiman's Sandman (hence the post title) until Dave2 mentioned Invincible and I changed my mind.
3. Listen to one new band per month
This is a holdover from my 2012 resolutions. I really enjoyed finding new bands and listening, but I'm not necessarily going to review them. I started doing that in 2012 until I realized that "reviewing" was not part of my resolution. I'm not a good music reviewer and I don't want to stress myself out like that.
4. Watch through season 4 of Sons of Anarchy and season 2 of Game of Thrones
I've heard nothing but good things from friends who watch Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones, so I'm finally taking the dive and drinking the Kool-Aid. Right now, Netflix Instant Watch only has seasons 1 through 4 of SoA and the library will be receiving season 2 of GoT in February or March so those are all I can currently watch, but, if any seasons are added to DVD during 2013 (I don't get HBO), I will include them in the goal.
5. Try three new recipes per month
This is a bit of a holdover from 2012. Instead of trying to make one per week, however, I want to make three new recipes per month. If they all happen in one week, fine. No worries there. And, since one per week wound up being a bit much this past year, I will take a small step back and make it three per month.
6. Post at least 50% of the year
For some people, posting half the days of the year isn't that big a deal. For me just a few years back, this wouldn't have been a big deal either. I posted daily for nearly two years if not longer. But those days are gone. Sometimes it's a real struggle to find something to write about, but I'm going to try so that I have something posted at least 183 days of 2013. This is the goal that scares me most.
7. Run three 5Ks
Pretty straight forward here, but I want to run at least three organized 5K runs this year. No timing goals, I just want to get them done and no walking if I can help it.
8. Post monthly updates on my progress
Much like 2012, I will hold myself accountable for my 2013 Goals by blogging my progress. At the top of this post, you'll see a list of all the months. As I write a recap post, I will link to it up there. I will also have a link to this master post in the top link bar of this blog. So, keep me honest, okay?
