Sketchin' fool...
When I was five years old, my parents moved us from New York to Lexington, Kentucky. On one of my first days there, a kid down the street came up to meet me. His name was Steve and, for the next five years, we became nearly inseparable.
Steve was a ridiculously talented illustrator for a five year old. He could draw up a storm and I was in awe. I did everything I could to try to be like him and fashioned myself into a bit of drawing fool.
My desire to draw and cartoon continued through high school.
Once I got to college, though, I really didn't have much time for it anymore. So I stopped. To be honest, I never really realized that I stopped. It just happened one day and I never looked back.
20 years have passed since the start of my college years and, aside from a few minor sketches, drawing has been limited to doodling on notes pages in meetings and whatnot. Those were halfhearted, at best.
However, since starting to watch Game of Thrones, I have to admit a bit of childish wonder has begun to root itself in my psyche. Seeing such majestically rendered creatures in GoT has really gotten my creative juices flowing again and I began a couple sketches in my work notebook.
They're not great, by any stretch of the imagination. But they're mine. And I'd like to see how this evolves. Especially now that I have a son who, hopefully, will share in his parents' creativity and wonderment.
Here are those sketches. Sorry the one has all kinds of black boxes. I had to redact my work notes. Maybe I should've drawn him on the back of a page instead of on the front.
Speaking of Game of Thrones, I only have 75 pages left in book one! Yay!
Pretty cool. I like the sketches. Haven't gotten into Game of Thrones yet.
