YEBO: Movies...

You all may be a little disappointed by what you're about to read. Today was going to be my Year-End Best-Of (YEBO) Movies list. I went through the list of 2013 movie releases on Wikipedia and discovered something rather disconcerting...

We've only seen 16.5 movies that came out in 2013 (the 0.5 goes to Emperor of which I've seen half and have yet to rent the DVD to finish it, but I like what I've seen). Actually, Katie has probably seen less as there are one or two I've seen without her. Oh, and I'm watching #17.5 (Elysium) as I type this.

How pathetic is that?

Last year, which was also pretty pathetic, I came up with the pseudo-creative idea of giving awards to movies, instead. I'm not feeling nearly creative enough to do that and the vast majority of movies I've seen cannot possibly populate a best-of movie list. So I'm just going to give schoolhouse ratings to the movies I've seen. I hope that's okay.

  • Captain Phillips (theater) - A-
  • Despicable Me 2 (theater) - B
  • Elysium (DVD) - I'll let you know, but positive so far.
  • Emperor (cruise ship) - I only saw half of it, so far, but am really liking it. Gotta get that from the library and finish it.
  • 42 (DVD) - B+
  • The Heat (theater) - B-
  • Identity Thief (DVD) - C
  • The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (DVD) - C+
  • Iron Man 3 (theater) - A-
  • Man of Steel (theater) - C+
  • Now You See Me (DVD) - C-
  • Olympus Has Fallen (DVD) - B-
  • Oz: The Great and Powerful (DVD) - B
  • Pacific Rim (theater) - B+
  • RED 2 (DVD) - C+
  • Safe Haven (theater & cruise ship) - C+
  • Turbo (DVD) - A-
  • White House Down (DVD) - C

I don't think I missed anything. Any 2013 film releases you'd recommend?

Here it is, my official Goals Post list for 2014. A few quick notes: I'm done with TV watching goals. I'm always so burned out by the show by the end that I never want to watch it again. I'm...

YEBO: TV...

Dec 30
I do believe this is it for my Year-End Best-Of (YEBO) lists. And this one is TV! What always makes this one special is that Katie and I work on it together. Maybe down the line when he's old enough,...

See what happens when you have children! Your movie watching time goes down (as Archie Bunker used to say) "the ter-let"!
In another year, for your viewing pleasure, you'll be an expert in Disney movies - although I know Katie is already!

Oh we've both been Disney experts for years. Love em.

HA! I see your 17.5 and I'll raise you......-17.5? I didn't see any of the movies on your list and to be honest with you, I can't remember the last time Becca and I were able to see a movie on our couch or in a theater. By the time Ava gets down for bed watching a movie just doesn't cross our minds. Hopefully some day I can get back to watching films but it's just too hard.

Theater outings are not easy at all. We've had babysitting a handful of times and those typically result in a movie double feature figuring we won't get back out to see any anytime soon. We might try again this weekend. As for at-home, most of them are watched after Nathan goes to bed or during a nap but typically broken in chunks. 45 minutes here and there sort of thing.

Marty Mankins

Iron Man 3 was tops on my list, which might be shorter than your list. I will have to sit down and go over what movies I saw this year.

The last one I saw that I can recommend is Wolf On Wall Street. Gritty and raw, it was really good. Very good.

kapgar

I wanna see The Wolf of Wall Street but it's clearly going to have to wait until DVD.

Gravity was my favorite movie of 2013. If you haven't seen it yet, I thoroughly recommend it.

That's not in theaters anymore, is it?
