Africancity...

I love receiving spam email.

Weird, right?

It's mostly because, as a proofreader, the painful spelling and grammar mistakes are a source of enduring entertainment for me. Also, as a web dude, I enjoy checking out these scammers attempts at e-subterfuge.

One actually made it through our Draconian spam filters at work today. And it provided me joy on both fronts.

"Reactiovation"? Seriously?

And if you're going to phish someone, don't give your link a crap address like africancity.net. At least make an effort and try to register something deceptively similar to the fake domain (vzw.com) in your return address line. Maybe vzw2.com or vzw-accounts.com. ("vzw" is Verizon Wireless, btw.)

Do I have to run a seminar in how to properly run a scam?

First off, congrats to the University of Connecticut Huskies on winning the NCAA men's basketball championship. Sure, I would've preferred it be my Kentucky Wildcats but it was not meant to be. I can handle UConn as champs. At least...

Blogiversary...

Reading Marty's blog post today about the sixth anniversary of his blog (congrats, BTW!) got me thinking about my own "blogiversary" (as we are wont to call it in the blogging community). What should be my blogiversary here on kapgar?...

Seems legit.

Oh totally.

Oh please don't offer spammers any tips on how to spam better... ;-)

I've had to teach others (family members over the age of 50, not including myself) how to identify spam. The link hover is one of the most easy ways to know it's not a legit email. Also, asking for a credit card number via email isn't very common, even amongst legit emails.

It just amazes me that, after all these years, they still make such fundamental mistakes. One step forward, two steps back.
