Blogiversary...

Reading Marty's blog post today about the sixth anniversary of his blog (congrats, BTW!) got me thinking about my own "blogiversary" (as we are wont to call it in the blogging community).

What should be my blogiversary here on kapgar?

You would think that would be a simple question to answer, right? The date that I started blogging.

But it has suddenly become not quite so clear.

I started blogging here on Typepad back on June 15, 2005. And, since I had taken down all my prior online journals (but had them saved to disk), it seemed pretty easy to justify celebrating June 15 as that date.

However, as you may recall, in 2013, I converted all my old static HTML blog posts from my defunct web journal to Typepad. This means that the entirety of my online "blogging" presence -- including what I had posted back on Geocities -- is all in one place and my archives now date back to March 15, 1998.

So, should I continue celebrating my blogiversary on June 15 as I have been for almost nine years now or should I be more literal and say that the anniversary of my online journaling/blogging is now March 15? (a celebration that, mind you, has unfortunately already passed for this year)

What say you? 1998 or 2005?

I love receiving spam email. Weird, right? It's mostly because, as a proofreader, the painful spelling and grammar mistakes are a source of enduring entertainment for me. Also, as a web dude, I enjoy checking out these scammers attempts at...

Macro Monday 2014.15...

Apr 14
Last week's Macro Monday was clearly tough. No guesses at all. Yeah, it was a toughie. I'm sorry about that. It was my first ever Dungeons & Dragons metal figurine. No, I didn't expect you to know it was my...

Heck if I know! I started "blogging" in 1994. I founded DaveWeb in 1997. I started Blogography in 2002. I deleted Blogography and started over again on April 18, 2003. So... April 18th is the anniversary of the modern incarnation of Blogography, and that's what I use. Now I'm toying with the idea of taking my travel journals for the 1980's and putting them online. I have no idea what that would mean.

Well the good thing is that my journals still work in accordance with the existence of the Web. You celebrate based on the 80s and people will think you predate Tim Berners-Lee. :-)

Thank you for the congrats.

I vote to stay at 2005. While it's temping to go back to the beginning, which you now have all of your posts here from 1998, the 2005 date is one most of your readers know here. I started Chillywilly.org back in 2002, but Banal Leakage started in 2008 and I went with that celebration due to it being more my official blog that I regularly update often.

Should I worry if I change to something other than Typepad or still stick with 2005?

I would stick with the 2005 date, regardless of what blogging platform you use (Typepad, Wordpress)

That's basically what I did. And still forgot it this year. Yesterday.
