Interesting things are afoot in Geneva, IL, today. And I swear I had nothing to do with any of it. Honest!
I saw a Tweet from the City of Geneva (which is where Katie, Nathan, and I live in the far west Chicago suburbs). It read...
That is all of a half mile from our house, as the proverbial crow flies. Also in the immediate area is a very busy shopping area (Geneva Commons), commuter/commercial train line, two train stations, a police station and jail, an elementary school, two middle schools (although much more distant), and a very busy north-south roadway. Simply put, any number of ways a person could escape or cause havoc.
Katie's at work several miles north. I'm at work a half hour southeast.
However, Nathan is currently at home with my mother-in-law. I called to let her know what is going on and to not answer the door. She texted to tell me that there was a police helicopter immediately over our house. The good thing is, though, that Nathan isn't noticing any of it.
I'm just glad I found out early enough as...
I wonder if I'll still have my doctor's appointment at 3:40 today considering the lockdown at his hospital.— KevinIL (@kapgar) January 27, 2015
I hope everyone is safe and this situation is resolved quickly. No, not just because of my appointment, but because it simply needs to be.
Update - 11:12 a.m.: per the City of Geneva website, the hard lockdown at Delnor Hospital has been lifted but two soft lockdowns at nearby elementary schools are still in place.
