Story Sunday 2014.05...

These are actual runners from the Geneva Park District's fifth annual Super Shuffle 5K that I took part in this morning. As a note, we had very little snow on the ground prior to 7 p.m. on Saturday. We got eight inches overnight prior to the race. It was still snowing throughout the morning.

I imagine these are at least a few of the thoughts going through these guys' heads. You decide who.

Let's get started already! Oh man, I'm getting my picture taken, make it good. Stand tall. Why the hell did I let these guys talk me into doing this? I need new friends. Stay on target! Focus. Focus. Who does this? Really? Yeah, I'm cool. Clear eyes full hearts can't lose! That's how it goes, isn't it? I can't feel a damn thing. If you fall, I will leave you behind. You cannot slow me down. Why won't this damn heat pack activate already? Feel the rhythm feel the rhyme get on up its 5K time! You are not as good as me. You never will be. We wear short shorts. If you dare wear short shorts, Nair for short shorts. Continue to the back of the group. Let's get started already!

I did. But I was layered heavily. There was a topless guy there too. But I cropped him out of the photo.

And talk about the perfect conditions for your snowshoe race. You'd have been in heaven.

Marty Mankins

You've captured their exact thoughts with precision. I think snowshoes would have made that race in the snow better.

Snowshoes could've been fun.
