AnonymISIS...

It was recently announced that, in the wake of the attacks in Paris, the hacker collective known as Anonymous has declared war against ISIS.

Of course, this is not guns and bombs war. It's a cyber war with the best hackers in the world lining up to help reduce or completely eliminate ISIS's reliance on Internet technology to wage their jihad on the world.

A lot of pundits and politicians have come out declaring that Anonymous will only get in the way of the real fight.

I disagree. Vehemently.

ISIS relies on instant messaging technology, message boards, social media, video sharing, and all kinds of other technologies based on the Internet to recruit new members and coordinate attack efforts from disparate locations. And if anyone has proven that they have the power to bring the Web world to its knees, it's hackers. And if it's unwise to piss off a solo hacker who can crack his way through the CIA's firewall just because s/he wants to, imagine what would happen if all the world's greatest hackers came together in a coordinated effort to bring down an enemy.

Imagine if they then use their skills not just to keep ISIS from using the Internet, but to physically find them in the world and share that knowledge with authorities.

I think Anonymous can hit ISIS harder than even military attacks.

I'm really intrigued to see what happens. Go, Guy!

I totally agree with you. Plus politicians are always toting the party line rhetoric (on both or rather all sides), which is just a bunch of bullshit. Bombing them isn't going to do much good and it's not the ultimate solution because violence, hatred, xenophobia, etc. just breeds more of these horrible, awful cretins.
