Emmet...
Before I get into the guts of this post, I have to wish a happy birthday to my mom who turns... I'll stop myself there. Happy birthday, mom!
Now for "the guts."
Yesterday, Katie and I decided to add a couple new movies into Nathan's film rotation. You see, we are doing everything in our power to make sure Nathan is very well rounded and not completely addicted to any one film so neither he nor, equally importantly, we get sick of seeing it all the time. Those movies were The Good Dinosaur and The LEGO Movie.
A little history first...
We never saw The Good Dinosaur in theaters. It always looked good and we wanted to see it but Nathan wasn't quite ready when this came out in late 2015. We tried a couple months prior with Minions and he did decently but not well enough to convince us to try again just yet. We bought it on Blu-ray as soon as it came out but Nathan never wanted to watch it, so Katie and I never got to, either.
We also never saw The LEGO Movie in theaters but bought it immediately on Blu-ray when it came out. Admittedly I was underwhelmed when I first saw it. It was just strange, didn't live up to my hype level, and the ending was weird. We gave it a second chance yesterday mostly due to Nathan's love of The LEGO Batman Movie and how good all the direct-to-disc movies have been.
The verdict? He loved both immensely and, particularly Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) from The LEGO Movie. We did, too. Dino was everything we hoped it would be and we loved LEGO so much more, even the ending.
Luckily, when I went in the attic a couple weekends ago, I found my Emmet minifigure and brought it down in anticipation of giving it to him when he finally watched it. He did, so I did. And they're inseparable.
This morning, in fact, we re-watched both films and built Nathan a custom interrogation chair much like the one from the Good Cop/Bad Cop scene. It's kinda become his de facto way of transporting Emmet... handcuffs and all.
I love this kid.
As if a blind man on a galloping horse couldn't see that!!

Gotcha. Never heard that saying. It's a strange one.

So awesome that he is liking these movies. And with that Emmet LEGO mining, that smiles says it all.
