Tu(n)esday/MFS: Beck...

I have been listening to Beck longer than I realized. The same probably goes for you, too. Seriously, give it a moment while you think about the first time you ever heard a Beck song. Probably been 20-odd years, hasn't it? Yikes.

The funny thing, though, is that my favorite song from Mr. Hansen (yes, his real name is Beck Hansen, in case you didn't know) tends to change with each new album. I might be in the minority here, but I feel like his music just gets better with age and I don't mean his older material gets better with time, I mean his ability to write and produce new content just improves as he ages.

Like many, Mellow Gold was beloved as was its follow-up, Odelay! They were fantastic albums.

But all those favorites got trumped by "Nicotine & Gravy" from Midnite Vultures in 1999 and then "E-Pro" from Guero in 2005 and, finally, "Modern Guilt" from Modern Guilt in 2008.

Now, though, all those songs and albums have been replaced by "Wow," which has yet to find its home on an album. It is the perfect mix of synth pop and electronic noise and alt hip-hop and... let's just say it sounds a lot like the earlier couple of albums from Gorillaz and some transitional Flaming Lips.

I can listen to this song endlessly.

Total Desert Island Song and I can't wait to hear what the rest of the album sounds like... assuming it ever comes out.

You are definitely not in the minority on Beck's sound and music getting better with each new release. I often track the entire album "Morning Phase" and relish in the fact that it won Album of the Year a few years back.

As for "Wow" all I can say is WOW. It's a great song. I actually prefer "Dreams" over it for non-stop listening. But I like it a lot. Hoping a new album will make it's way this year.

Glad you adopted the MFS. My next one is this coming Monday.

"Dreams" is singularly amazing as well. But the whole Gorillaz/Lips appeal of "Wow" won it for me.
