On Tuesday, Nathan had a fire drill at school. He didn’t like it because the alarm was really loud and hurt his ears. 

What does it say about me that, after a long time running of Nathan leaving his bed in the middle of the night to come sleep in our room, that when a night finally comes when he stays in his own bed, my first thought is not that he finally had a good night’s sleep, but that something is obviously wrong? 

Yesterday was an odd little anniversary of sorts for me... I have officially been using Last.fm to track my music listening for a decade!

A lot of people got last week’s challenge photo. Because it became so obvious, some of you got creative. I appreciate that. Anyway...

Over the course of the last four (or five?) days, I've rewatched or finished watching both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Avengers: Age of Ultron. I've changed my tune slightly with The Last Jedi and need to add Ultron to the rankings overall. So here's a little explanation...

Today was Nathan’s sixth birthday party and what we hope will be the last time we hold it a month in advance of his actual birthday. 

What do you do if something happens to destroy any chance of ever completing a bucket list item? I actually had this happen and didn’t realize it until just today. 

I found this great shot of a sunset near our home from eight years ago. According to the notes, it’s unfiltered with no alterations or color adjustments at all.

I guess you could say that we're kinda insular in our neighborhood. Sure, we see people and say "hi" or "how ya doin'?" or the like. But for the most part, we don't know many of our neighbors save for the ones immediately to either side of us and one set across the street and one guy a few houses down. 

It's pretty nice that we have such a reliable network connection that is so uncongested that we can stream video while we work. I logged into MoviesAnywhere.com and streamed Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2 on a second screen while doing some QC on my other screen. Even just listening to it is a pretty amazing experience.

So, um, no one got last week’s challenge photo. And, so far as I can tell, it didn’t post on Facebook. Not sure what happened with that one. Sorry about that. 

We went to a Kane County Cougars game today. They are the local minor league A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. We waited kinda late in the season to go for whatever reason so we ended up only really having Princess Day on which to go. So, yeah, all little girls were dressed up as fairy or Disney princesses. 

Katie and I were watching TV in bed tonight flipping through the program guide when I saw Point Break. I told Katie how I had never seen it.

I got a call from Katie at work today and she told me, “Your son found your GameCube controller today.”

One of my favorites, Aphex Twin (AKA Richard D. James) released a new track and a pretty wicked viral advertising campaign around the Aphex Twin-loving world. Ev-er-y-where! 

I know I said that I didn’t expect anyone to get last week’s challenge photo. At least, no one outside my office. So imagine my surprise when two people did get it. Okay, one, as the other is a coworker. Yeah yeah. 

Katie and I are watching an episode of House Hunters with a couple of hipster salon owners shopping for a vacation house in Charleston, SC, who are enraging me so much with their stupidity that it makes me want to drink. 

I’m looking for a new wallpaper for the home screen of my iPhone and I’m hoping you all can help me decide. Oh, and before you all ask, I already have Nathan and Katie on my lock screen, so, no, they’re not getting the shaft. 

A couple months ago, I created my ranking list for Disney/Pixar films. Then I realized that all I did was make a list. I gave no rationale for the rankings whatsoever. This might be a good time to remedy that. So, below, please find my original ranking list appended with a brief reason why...

Eight years ago, Katie and I went on vacation to Disney World in Orlando. In addition to the Magic Kingdom, we also went to Animal Kingdom. 

Do you remember a week ago when I was reminiscing about my old FunWithDeadTrees book review site? There actually was a reason for it beyond just taking a stroll down memory lane. 

I'm still in shock that George Michael is no longer with us (yes, I know it was almost two years ago now). Prince and David Bowie and Tom Petty were bad enough. But George Michael, too? It's just crazy the amount of talent we've lost in the last few years. Alas, he is gone and we have to content ourselves with the material he produced during his far-too-short career. But it's magnificent material, isn't it?

I had a really good guess on last week’s challenge photo from Marty that it was a Norelco shaver blade. One of those spinny  ones, yanno? I dug it. Alas, it was not correct.

Parenting Pro Tip 176:

When you have a five-year-old who is not just terrified of death but also very literal when it comes to language, do not describe how tired you are by saying, “I’m dying over here.”
