Films of 2019...

Welcome to my must-see list of movies for 2019! Okay, "must-see" might be a bit overreaching. "Wanna-See"? Oh, and this isn't for all of 2019; just the first half of it. I'll do a list for the second half a little later on once IMDb populates their release list and makes more trailers available. So let's call this Kapgar's Wanna-See Movie List for the First Half of 2019. Oy, that's clunky. Oh well.

The Upside

I saw this trailer in theaters a couple weeks ago and it looks good although the initial reviews are less than stellar.

The Kid Who Would Be King

This looks like the sort of love action movie that could be fun for our whole family and still actually be a little cutesy. Worth a shot anyway.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

LEGO. Need I say more?

Isn't It Romantic

This is one that Katie is really interested in seeing. I hope to be able to see it with her.

Fighting With My Family

The true(ish) story of retired WWE superstar Paige. Yeah, this could be fun.

Alita: Battle Angel

I had no desire to see this the first time I saw the trailer. But the more I saw it, the more it grew on me.

Happy Death Day 2U

I love love love the original film that came out in 2017. So much fun. This horror-comedy sequel looks like it could be equally exciting.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Admittedly I have not seen the second film in this series, but Nathan and I really enjoyed the original. Maybe we’ll see if the second is streaming online or at the library.

Captain Marvel

Yes yes yes. A million times YES!

Five Feet Apart

Teen medical melodrama? Sure. Why not? Plus it costars Riverdale’s own Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse).

I’m iffy on this one as it’s a live action remake of one of my all-time favorite Disney classics. But I feel I’ll regret it if I don’t see it on the big screen.

Pet Sematary

Another iffy one being a remake of a horror movie I cherished when it first came out. Yet the remake of It was amazing.

Zachary Levi as the adult superhero alter ego of a tween kid? It’s the hero version of Big!

My third iffy inclusion but I will give Chief Hopper (David Harbour) a chance as the big red guy.

Avengers: Endgame

After rewatching Infinity War, I’m really looking forward to this final (?) Avengers installment.

Pokemon Detective Pikachu

Wayyyyy iffy but it’s Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu. How can I say no?

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

I had no idea this was ready to go. But I will always watch my Kaiju films (save the Pacific Rim sequel) and this one has a twist involving the end of humanity via virus that can only be cured with the giant monsters on our planet. Weird but I’ll check it out.

In Sing, Taron Egerton sang an Elton John song. In Kingsman: Golden Circle, he saved him. Now Egerton comes full circle actually playing Sir Elton. A big yes.

The Secret Life of Pets 2

Another Nathan pick but I’m sure it will be fun.

Dark Phoenix

I first saw this trailer months ago before it was unceremoniously pushed back a handful of months from the 2018 holiday season. I don’t know what they saw that warranted the delayed release. I think it looks incredible.

Men in Black: International

This could be terrible and it could be great. But I will watch a re-teaming of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok) any day.

Toy Story 4

A totally unnecessary sequel as Toy Story 3 was a masterfully tied ribbon on the trilogy gift box. But it’s Pixar and it’s nearly all the original voices so I’m in.

Of these, I think Captain Marvel is the one to which I'm most looking forward. I hope it lives up to the hype.

This seems like a pretty comprehensive list. I wonder how many I'll actually get around to seeing.

What, no Glass?

Pet Semetary looks good. Loved that book as a kid, and the first movie. Definitely want to see Happy Death Day 2. I want to want to see Lego Movie 2, and probably will, but I'm not excited about it like I thought I would be, and I'm not sure why.

The second installment of How to Train Your Dragon was terrible, imo, so I'm not sure I'd watch this new one until it comes to DVD.

Little to no desire to see Glass. Haven’t seen Unbreakable in 17 years and really don’t remember it and never saw Split so seeing the third in a trilogy will mean nothing to me.

Kevin Spencer

Chief Hopper *and* Eleven in the same blog post. I literally only just finished Stranger Things season 2 last week. Better late than never right?

Considering how long the wait is for season three, you’re. It even the truly late one.
