Exclusivity...

As if trying to remember what streaming service is hosting which show wasn’t enough, now I may have to start dealing with this with podcasts, too.

I was listening to one of my long-term podcasts today and heard a commercial for a podcast called Stay Free that highlights the career of The Clash.

Cool! I just listened to season two the Opus podcast from Consequence of Sound featuring a deep dive into the life and career of Jimi Hendrix (season one featured Bob Dylan).

Following that with The Clash would be fun!

Then I heard that Stay Free is only available on Spotify. WTF? Podcast exclusives?

Sure, I have a Spotify paid plan and could listen to it. But I listen to all my other podcasts on the native iOS Podcast app. I don’t want to have to bounce around from service to service to watch them all.

I also don’t want to move all my subscriptions to Spotify because we have a single user plan. When Katie goes to the gym and wants to listen to Spotify, then I listen to podcasts. If they’re all in Spotify, I can’t do that.

And using both services and mentally syncing what I have and have not heard does not appeal to me in the slightest.

Oh, who am I kidding? We know I’m gonna fold and download Stay Free in Spotify anyway.
