It really sucks when something that you’ve been looking forward to for a long, long time completely blows and disappoints the heck out of you in ways you couldn’t even fathom.
That was me with Thomas Harris’ new novel Cari Mora. It’s his first book in 13 years since Hannibal Rising and his first book since 1975’s Black Sunday to not feature his trademark character Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
Honestly, I haven’t enjoyed any of his books since Lambs but I keep hoping for the best... and am let down completely. But this new one doesn’t feel like him at all. He’s trying too hard to channel Carl Hiaasen and Elmore Leonard and failing miserably at both.
I gave up about 25% of the way through. None of it stuck with me at all.
I just... no.
