Pandemic...

It’s certainly been an interesting week, hasn’t it? That’s not to take away from the previous couple of months, of course. But this week marks the official declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic worldwide and a national emergency in the United States.

This has been followed by the enacting of all kinds of safety measures, rushes on supplies both necessary and ridiculous, and closures and delays of anything and everything under the sun (here’s a list of Chicago closings alone).

The “closures and delays” list officially includes Nathan’s school thru March 30, at which time staff and admin will reconvene to decide next steps. The week of March 30 to April 3 is Nathan’s spring break anyway, so this means he’ll be out of school and home with me for three weeks.

Why me? Because my office has a really awesome work from home policy in that I can work from home anytime I want or need. Since Katie’s job won’t (can’t) let her do the same, this flexibility comes in quite handy.

But it’s also gonna be tough because Nathan will be home all day and he’ll get tired of doing nothing and having to watch me work and whatnot. So it will be interesting to see how I balance work and Nathan. It should be an intriguing challenge.

There are a lot of great educational sites that have offered up free materials to help pass the time. Many have videos and other activities that kids can do. These links were provided by friends who are educators:

Ohhhh, thank you for these! We have been checking out Scholastic and are probably gonna sign up but that doesn’t mean we can’t do more.
