Tu(n)esday: Sonic...
Nathan’s been editing his Spotify playlist a bit lately. Removing some old songs he doesn’t want to hear anymore, adding some new ones, reordering a little.
He has some interesting choices in there ranging from awesome songs like Alice Merton’s “No Roots” to questionable versions of good songs like Kidz Bop’s “Old Town Road” to downright bad shit like Rebecca Black’s “Friday.”
Most of what he loves musically comes either from movies and TV shows he enjoys and from his classroom where they have Classroom DJ in which kids play songs they like for their classmates.
I say this to preface that Nathan has recently become addicted to The Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop” and Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” and Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
These are great songs, by my estimation. I’ve actually played the first two for him in hopes that he’d latch on but he never did. Not until... gulp... he discovered them on his own... from the soundtrack for Sonic the Hedgehog.
Yes, Daddy can play music for Nathan all the time to no avail. But when those same songs act as accompaniment to the adventures of a CGI hedgehog based on a video game from my own youth, they’re suddenly cool.
Me? Not so much.
Le sigh.
