Time keeps on slippin' (slippin' slippin') into the future.
Hmm, that would make for a great chorus to a song. I should write that down. In the meantime, how about a review of my goals in June.
1. Blog Play: I did some more design tweaks and even committed a few of them over here just to make the overall transition a bit easier. Once all is said and done, I may ask if a couple of you would be willing to give the new design a trial run. If you're interested, let me know. No, I'm not sure when this will happen, so don't get too excited.
2. Music Play: I did pretty okay with new-to-me bands in June. I know I hit my goal but I'm not sure by how much. Let's check!
So much has been made of k-pop sensations BTS that when Pitchfork said their new album, Map of the Soul : 7, was actually really good, I thought I'd give it a shot. It's not bad. Just not the sort of thing I would seek out on a regular basis. But keep fighting the good fight against hate, boys!
Since I cracked open the eBook of his autobiography A Drop of Midnight: A Memoir, I decided to give some of Timbuktu's Swedish hip hop a shot. Yeah, I know, who reads the memoir of a musician whose music they haven't heard, right? Yes, it's an odd approach. It was a free book from Amazon and I was looking for something different. As to the music, it's really good and I plan to listen to more. I only wish I understood Swedish.
Pitchfork had an article out last week about the 20 greatest heavy metal albums so far in 2020. One of them was Lamb of God's self-titled release and the write up sounded pretty good, so I checked out a few tracks. So not my style. Oh well. I tried.
I did listen to a fourth album that I must admit is not entirely new to me, per se. Of course I know Jeff Ament as the founding bass player for Pearl Jam and with other bands. But I had no idea he had solo albums. So I checked out While My Heart Beats and enjoyed it immensely.
I'll take it.
3. Camera Play: #MiniMusicMonday continues on.
4. Word Play: It was a late-game Hail Mary (I'd only read one book through the 23rd), but I not only hit my goal for the month, I made up for some of my past deficit! And I finally added some graphic novels to my list.
5. Update Play: Here it be.
This is the slowest year that is flying by at breakneck speed. How's that for confounding?
