Libroqueue 2020.06...

I knew nine books would be a stretch. BIIIIGGGGGG stretch. As of today, I'm only through five of them. Oddly, not the five you might expect. Here's the list of what I planned to read:

  • Mark Andrew Smith’s Sullivan’s Sluggers
  • Al Ewing’s The Immortal Hulk, book 2 (which contains volumes 3 & 4)
  • Sean Murphy’s Batman: Curse of the White Knight
  • Grady Hendrix’s The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires
  • Grady Hendrix’s Horrorstör
  • Grady Hendrix’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism
  • Danny Katch's Socialism... Seriously: A Brief Guide to Human Liberation
  • Dave Mustaine’s Rust in Peace
  • Charles Cross’ Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix

As of today, I finished The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, Horrorstör, Socialism... Seriously, and Rust in Peace. I also listened to Lili Reinhart's Swimming Lessons, a collection of poems.

I am about 13% of the way through Batman, 40% of the way through Immortal Hulk, 27% of the way through Marc Levy's The Last of the Stanfields, and 20% of the way through Harold Schechter's Hell's Princess: The Mystery of Belle Gunness, Butcher of Men. The last two are obviously later additions to the list because Exorcism still hasn't come in on Overdrive. I am also partway through From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, a collection of short stories. Although I'm not sure exactly how far through it I am.

What I find surprising is that I have truly dragged my butt when it comes to reading graphic novels.

Sullivans-sluggers

Normally, those are my go-to when I need to quickly inflate my book total for any given period. Not so this month. I'm less than halfway through two of them and haven't started the third at all. Gah! Oh well.

As for December, I'm going to wrap up all the books I planned to read in November and just didn't finish and leave it at that:

  • Mark Andrew Smith’s Sullivan’s Sluggers
  • Al Ewing’s The Immortal Hulk, book 2 (which contains volumes 3 & 4)
  • Sean Murphy’s Batman: Curse of the White Knight
  • Marc Levy's The Last of the Stanfields
  • Harold Schechter's Hell's Princess: The Mystery of Belle Gunness, Butcher of Men
  • Charles Cross’ Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix
  • Various Authors' From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back

Considering I'm partway through a majority of these, it shouldn't be terrible.

And, if Overdrive feels kind enough to deliver me a copy, I'll add:

  • Grady Hendrix’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism

I mean, five books is not bad. It's just not the nine for which I was gunning. I knew it was a bit much.
