MAP-19...

Did you know you could track COVID-19 trends worldwide on Google Maps? I had no idea until I looked today and saw that there was a button to click in the rail that offered a COVID-19 map layer.

You can zoom in to see trend analysis for the last seven days by county, state, country... It's cool. But scary as all get out.

Based on this, there are only two U.S. states that are in the 1-10 range (Hawaii and Alaska) and two in the dark red range (New York and South Carolina). I like knowing Illinois is in the 10-20 range and trending down

Of course now that I try to get back to it, I cannot find that button anywhere. Looks like you have to go to Google Maps, click on any point on the map so that latitude and longitude coordinates show up in the URL in your browser window, and then add /data=!5m1!1e7 to the end of it. So...

...becomes...

https://www.google.com/maps/@41.5956343,-89.0854372,9z/data=!5m1!1e7

So, yay to Google for adding that layer and boo to Google for making it so hard to access a second time.

UPDATE: Kazza's comment was right. It's just nestled in the hamburger menu on the main Google Maps page. I completely missed it.

This is a great find. Nice to have some kind of view to this pandemic.
