But when I read to him, I have voices that I give to all the characters. It’s not an easy thing to do, creating (and remembering) these voices. It gives me a lot of respect for audiobook readers.

Anyway, the books are being adapted into movies the first of which comes out later this month.

I’ve seen the trailer and other promos multiple times. I’ve listened carefully to the voices created by Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, and Zazie Beetz, among others. And I’ve gotta say that it’s so weird to hear a different interpretation of these characters and realize that they sound absolutely nothing like my voices. Not one iota.

I feel like my voices have been betrayed by this new movie. I’ll still see it. Probably several times knowing Nathan. But it’s gonna be strange.
