Adult…

It was bad enough years ago when I started hearing music that I loved as a teenager playing in so-called “Classic Rock” radio stations. I could handle that despite it making me feel older.

Today, however, I stopped on a station because I heard Pearl Jam and that’s when I noticed the station’s identifier on my car radio flash “Adult Hits.”

Adult hits? Seriously??

Classic rock was fine because that at least aligned grunge and alt rock with the likes of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, as they should be.

But “adult hits” are the Barry Manilows and James Taylors I groaned to when it was played by either my or ny friends’ parents. Admittedly I don’t dislike Barry Manilow but he’s not what I actively seek to listen to and I certainly don’t think of him and Eddie Vedder in the same light just like I’m sure someone listening to James Taylor wouldn’t be expecting their station to transition to Pearl Jam.

I’m truly old.

I would never equate Eddie Vedder and James Taylor being on the same station.

It's funny you should mention James Taylor. Just saw him live last night here in SLC.

I actually thought he died a while ago. Whoops.

Whoops. He is 76 and in very fine form both physical and vocal.

That makes him younger than my parents which surprises me. I thought he was far older.
