Two-timing…

So there’s a MLB catcher named Danny Jansen who was recently traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Boston Red Sox. What’s really cool is that this dude is about to become the first MLB player to play for both teams in the same game.

According to a Reel I saw on Instagram, Jansen started at catcher for the Jays in a game against the Bosox on June 26. That game was suspended due to rain in the second inning and rescheduled to be completed on August 26.

At the trade deadline, he was swapped over to Boston meaning that he will now be a Red Sox catcher when the game continues.

But it gets weirder.

Jansen was at bat when the game was suspended. So when the game resumes, the Jays will need to put in a pinch hitter for him.

But wait! The guy who was playing catcher for the Sox during the original game, Reese McGuire, was designated for reassignment to make room for Jansen on the roster. So the odds are that Jansen will be in the starting lineup for Boston, which means…

Jansen will be playing catcher for Boston when he should be at bat for Toronto.

He’s technically catching against himself.

How messed up is that??

For the record, this weird mother of a situation has been confirmed by the New England Sports Network. No resolution was offered, though.

Isn’t that crazy??? Being a Sox fan, I figured you’d pick up on it.
