Doorbell…
We’ve been having some issues of late with our doorbell. Several years ago, we switched from a standard doorbell to a Nest wired camera doorbell. It’s been great.
But recently, something happened that kinda killed it.
We started getting a constant low dinging sound from the chime box that would last for about five seconds after the doorbell was pressed from the striker constantly hitting the bar rapid fire.
So I installed a new chime box. It still happened.
(Yes, I’m aware the wire is disconnected in the photo because I don’t want to die)
We next got a new Nest doorbell. It was fine once we re-did the wiring. No issues for about a month.
But a day or so after we got back from Michigan, I heard a buzzing from the doorbell. Not the same sound from before. And there was a faint yellow streak on the wall above the chime box.
I popped the cover off the chime box and there was yellow inside the cover and the strike plate was hot.
It was overheating and, if we weren’t there to catch it, it might’ve caught on fire. Maybe. I assume.
I need to figure this out because we’ve now been without a doorbell for almost a week. The only remaining option is the transformer box that is in our attic. That’s gonna be a pain in the ass. I hate electricity.
