Horror…
Nate and I have continued down the horror movie route we started some months ago.
We started with the Halloween franchise and have since watched Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Halloween H2O, Halloween Resurrection, Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. Basically every one of them save for Rob Zombie’s reboot duology.
11 films
Then we moved to the Scream franchise and have watched Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Scream 4, Scream (2022), and Scream VI. All of them. A few times each, actually.
6 films
We also watched A Nightmare on Elm Street and A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge but not beyond that yet.
2 films
Then we started and finished the Chucky film franchise with Child’s Play, Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky, and Cult of Chucky. We also are about halfway through season 1 of Chucky, the SyFy Channel series. The only one we haven’t watched was the reboot attempt with Mark Hamill replacing Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky. Love Mark, but that’s blasphemy.
7 films
26 films total
I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed the Chucky franchise. This was a series of which I’d only ever seen the original film with zero desire to see any others. But Nate loved them all and that made me enjoy them more.
I’m even more surprised by how much Nate has enjoyed all these films. No nightmares or anything. He just wants to watch more and more. And he has no issue separating fact from fiction at all.
I want to continue the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise but am worried about some of the heavy sexuality of it. Same goes for Friday the 13th, which I’d personally like to finish. And then the crossover films.
Any suggestions? No. Saw is not an option. Nor is Terrifier.
They're gonna take away your "parent" badge!!

I was watching them at that age and they didn’t take them away from you.

The first time I ever saw Nightmare on Elm St I was 5 years old, and it was at the drive-in. It scared the hell out of me, gave me nightmares for weeks. Didn't stop me from eventually growing to love the series though.
Not sure if you just want to stick to franchises right now, but if not, may I recommend Night of the Creeps, Dead Heat and The Blob (the 1980's one). Those are three of my all time favorites, and they kind of straddle the line between horror/comedy and horror/action.

We’ve mostly been sticking to franchises just because the challenge of finishing one motivates us to keep going and leaves little room to question what we’re watching next. That said, we have watched a few standalone films like the classic Universal Creature from the Black Lagoon and Hitchcock’s Psycho. So I will put your recs on the list. Thanks!

What a great idea. Do you know I've not watched a single Chucky movie at all ever. Should fix that. I remember watching Halloween 3 and thinking, uh this isn't a Halloween movie. But kinda enjoyed it for what it was "silver shamrock".

I always avoided Halloween III because I k ew it wasn’t Michael Myers. But TBH, until Nate and I watched the series, I had only ever seen the original and H2O. But yeah, when you consider it as the anthology film it was supposed to be, it’s a solid 80s sci-fi/horror flick.
