Linkin…

Seven years after the death by suicide of co-lead singer Chester Bennington, one of my favorite bands, Linkin Park, appears to be back together… for a longer haul.

They’ve done some small stuff here and there like releasing previously unreleased tracks or greatest hits albums or remixing songs. But they never toured or recorded anything new.

But either late last year or early this year, they invited in a new lead singer, Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara, and recruited a new drummer, Colin Brittain (All Time Low), to replace Bennington and departing drummer Rob Bourdon, respectively.

Their first full studio album, From Zero, is expected to be released on November 15 and they plan to tour in support of it.

Also, their first single from this upcoming album, “The Emptiness Machine,” was released late yesterday. It rocks. Hard.

What I like is that other co-lead singer Mike Shinoda gets an extended rap intro on the song which lulls us into the familiar in the best possible way. This is before Armstrong kicks in with what I can only describe as the best possible spiritual evolution of Bennington’s sound and attitude. She’s good. Damn good.

LP did well in finding her.

But, have you ever heard of her or her band, Dead Sara, prior to this? I know I hadn’t. But today I dove into Spotify and listened to all three of their released albums – Dead Sara, 2012; Pleasure to Meet You, 2015; and…

Ain’t It Tragic, 2021.

And they’re good. Damn good. See what I did there?

I hope that Dead Sara is not done as a result of her joining LP, because, in her downtime from her new gig, I’d love to hear more from them.

I can’t wait for November.

Myth…

I will never understand the mental process used by some artists when naming their songs. TIL, while listening to 1st Wave on Sirius/XM, that a song I’ve known of for 35 years is not called what I always assumed it...

Mine and Katie’s Northern Illinois Huskies football team won their game today. They won it at their opponent’s home stadium. In South Bend, Indiana. Yeah, they beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 16-14 who were ranked #5. In the nation....

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I thought she was an excellent choice vocally.

There's been a teeny tempest in a teacup controversy with her links to Scientology and support for Danny Masterson . https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/1faruh7/linkin_parks_emily_armstrong_slammed_over_alleged/

So I dunno?

I found this in that sub thread… “Hi, I’m Emily. I’m new to so many of you, and I wanted to clear the air about something that happened a while back. Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have. I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since. Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty. To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes.”

This is good to hear your opinion as a long time fan of LP. I never got into them as much. I was more of a Chester fan than anything (saw him live when he was lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots). I do have several LP albums on digital and like some of the songs.

As for Emily, I know Dead Sara music and their sound and her vocals. I saw them live a couple years back when they opened for Slash. Great stage presence.

Oh you’re lucky to have seen Dead Sara live! Hernandez sound would be great in person.
