Myth…

I will never understand the mental process used by some artists when naming their songs.

TIL, while listening to 1st Wave on Sirius/XM, that a song I’ve known of for 35 years is not called what I always assumed it was called.

It’s a folksy little rocker that I always knew as “Romeo in Black Jeans” because that’s kinda the hook in the chorus and, to be honest, while I liked the song, it was never one I sought out. Just something that occasionally played on the radio of which I never heard a DJ say the song’s name. Or just didn’t pay attention.

Another possible title for the song might be “Someone to Dance With” because that’s also at the end of each chorus. And I think it’s a cool name for the track.

As it turns out, the song is actually titled “No Myth” and was written and performed by Michael Penn.

I looked him up to see if he was related to Sean Penn, because, yanno, all Penns gotta be related, right? Maybe it was the brother who was also an actor who died about 20 years ago. No, turns out that’s Chris Penn. But Michael is one of the Penn brothers. You can see it.

And a little bit of Timothee Chalamet, too, it seems.

If you’re not familiar, check the song out. It’s pretty good. Holds up well to changing tastes. It’s got a total Elvis Costello vibe.

Timothee Chalamet certainly.

One I saw that, I could not un-see it.

I see the Timothee Chalamet resemblance for sure. I know this song very well. It gets played often on 1st Wave.

It’s one I completely forgot until recently.
