Rappel…
I recently received an email from a local fire department I form g us that they were going to be practicing the art of dropping down ropes from a height at our local parking deck.
Why did I describe it as the “art of dropping down ropes from a height”? Because you wouldn’t know what its official name was from their email.
They are “repelling training”? Like driving it away? Making it so they don’t have to do it?
I assume they actually meant “rappelling training.” With an “a” in the first vowel spot.
At least this wasn’t embarrassing like a previous employer of mine that sent out a press release identifying our department as “pubic relations.”
Every professional organization and company should have a proofreader, at the very least, on retainer but, at best, as a full-time employee. It’s a lost art. That desperately needs to be rediscovered.
