Words 2…

Do you remember a couple months ago when I detailed some words that I absolutely hate and the reasons why I hate them? I’ve got another one to add to the list…

Woke

This is a word that, in the last decade or so, has come to represent a state of being and awareness where a person is able to view the inequity of treatment amongst people who are thought of as different due to gender, race, culture, religion, sexuality, etc.

While it doesn’t seem like an inherently bad word, it has lately been leveled as a pejorative by people who are inherently bad and against those who have made it a point to realize that their society is NOT EQUAL for everyone, it never has been, and with shit like this being perpetuated, it may never be.

These days, the only people to use the word “woke” are those who like to see themselves on a pedestal lording above others, attempting to ensure that they will never lose their self-proclaimed righteousness even though they really have no reason to claim it in the first place.

You’ll likely hear it used akin to, as an example, “Quit pushing your woke agenda in my face!!” And then fists are flying, arrests made, and lawsuits filed.

Simply put, concerning the current use of the word… it’s racist. It’s gendrist. It’s ageist. It’s culturist. It’s bigoted. It’s homophobic. It’s transphobic. It’s biphobic. Any word you can think of to describe a person who intentionally tries to keep another down for some twisted form of personal gain based on some aspect of their upbringing or personality or attribute, that word applies to the sort of people who currently use the word “woke.”

I’d either like to never hear this word used anymore or find some way to take it back and make it mean something positive again. I mean, what’s more pure than being able to say, “I opened my eyes and realized the world is not right. I’m woke to how things need to change and want to be that change!”

For the record, I thought of this because I just finished a book that I absolutely adored. Top 20 of my lifetime, for sure. And I made the mistake of reading other peoples’ reviews of it on Goodreads and saw one imbecile describe how she hated that “it pushed a woke agenda in her face.” I wanted to smack her.

Here’s something that hasn’t happened in several years. Not since before the pandemic, in fact. Katie, Nate, and I have seen three movies in four days! Wicked, Part 1 on Saturday. Amazing movie. Deserving of the hype. All of it....

They always say to “never judge a book by its cover.” I say that’s crap! I always judge books by their cover. But this applies to literal books, not figurative ones. If the cover is boring or not well designed,...
