So anytime a new film is announced, I’m hesitant  Very hesitant. I don’t mean to say they’re all bad. But I just know I’ll ultimately be let down.

Now we have another. Despite (or maybe in spite of) all the Superman content that has been released in the last decade starring Albert Mondego/Henry Cavill, the whole universe of DC Comics movies is being rebooted because, let’s face it, they sucked. And Superman is, I believe, the first to get a feature film (a TV miniseries is airing currently or soon but I’m not sure what it is or when).

I’d heard many rumors and, admittedly, I wasn’t a fan of much of what I’d heard. Krypto? Really? But here’s the trailer…

Okay. I’m jiving this so far. Starting the trailer with Supes at his absolute lowest possible point is an interesting tactic. I dig it.

David Corenswet looks like he could be a decent Supes/Clark despite being about a foot taller than any other person on the sidewalks of Metropolis if that scene where he’s looking like a young Cillian Murphy is any indication. 

There’s Nathan Fillion with the world’s worst blonde bowl cut ever as Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern Corps member I’ve never heard of before.

Some cool action.

But, lest I forget, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

I’m all in for Hoult as Lex. I’ve been watching him for years and thought he was a decent actor before. But 2023’s Renfield made me a fan.

So, yeah, I’m hesitant. But hesitantly optimistic. Why? James Gunn. That’s why. The guy made A-list stars of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Had you ever heard of them before 2015? Nope. Me neither. Now my son’s room is adorned with 20 different Groot POPs, LEGO sets, action figures, stuffed animals, and the twig is even on our Christmas tree this year.

Yeah, I’m hesitantly optimistic because I’m Team Gunn.
