RIP
Rough day in entertainment today.
First came the news of the passing of Milwaukee Brewers announcing great Bob Uecker. He was an average baseball player who flunked his way into announcing when his post playing career work as a scout for the Milwaukee Braves failed miserably. He started announcing games in 1971 and that branched into an acting career that included a starring role in the 80s sitcom Mr. Belvedere and a supporting (but immensely influential and memorable) role in the Major League trilogy of films as Cleveland Indians announcer Harry Doyle.
Uecker was 90.
Then came the announcement of David Lynch’s death. Lunch was the visionary writer and director of Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive. But his legacy, despite how great that resume is, will always be Twin Peaks, which he created, wrote, directed, and executive produced. He was crazy and cool and inspired and there will never be another like him.
Lynch was 78.
Rough, indeed. But who will be the third? They always go in threes.
