Ever since Instagram was bought by Facebook, now Meta, it has become so stupid.
The rules make no sense. The penalties for breaking them make less sense. The reasons why people and their photos are deemed in violation of their rules is even less sensical than all the above.
Allow me to share an example…
I posted this photo of a Masters of the Universe figure named Webstor to my toy account. He’s making heart hands as best I can with molded plastic. It was Valentine’s Day. It was timely and cute.
Seven hours after posting it, I looked and saw that I had a takedown notice from Facebook.
What the heck does that even mean?? So I clicked a link to read more.
I am not repeating the same comment or post.
I am not using automated means to take actions.
I did message a lot of people but I’m connected to all of them via photography groups. And we’ve all been doing this for years without issue.
So I appealed figuring no one would listen and I’d just have to go and re-post my photo which I really didn’t want to do because it seemed even spammier to do that after attaining all the likes and comments I already had earned.
Oddly, though, this happened…
Your “technology made a mistake”? You mean your horribly mismanaged AI scripts effed it all up because you’re too damn cheap to pay humans to do what only humans can effectively do? You’re penalizing a picture of an action figure making a love sign when fake advertisers can freely put up sponsored posts for scams or perverts can post nudity and sexual violence or politicians and “religious” people can post hate speech?
It’s stupid. Just like anything Meta. All that Zuckerberg touches turns to shit.
But, sadly, there’s no better means by which to share my photos with a broad audience and I like the people I’ve met, the groups I’ve joined, and the brands I’ve partnered with.
So, much like any Meta user, I’m stuck.
And that’s how Zuck likes it.
And to think this is going to get much worse with all Meta products.
