Ares

I’ve known for a while they were making Tron: Ares, another sequel to the classic 1982 Disney movie Tron about a hacker/arcade owner (Jeff Bridges) being sucked into a computer world to save the programs from an all-powerful Master Control Program trying to wipe them out of existence.

I loved the original movie as a kid and I really enjoyed the first sequel Tron: Legacy that came out in 2010, so I was hesitantly excited when it was first teased a few years ago.

Then came the casting announcement that generally kills my excitement for just about everything… Jared Leto will be starring in it.

I’m sorry in advance to any of you who are fans, but that dude just bugs the eff out of me. I can honestly say that the only thing he’s done in the last 20-odd years that I liked was House of Gucci.

So my excitement waned in a major way. I stopped paying attention entirely.

But the trailer dropped, I think it was today as it seems to be trending everywhere, and… WOW!

Instead of a human going into the computer world, the program (and everything that goes along with it, including, as we see, light cycles, recognizers, and, I pray, tanks and, my personal fave, solar sailers) comes out to us?!?! YES, PLEASE!!

Oh, and the soundtrack is 100% Nine Inch Nails music. Soooo…

Sure, we don’t get to see much of what Leto’s character, Ares, is all about so I might yet become unexcited again. But, for now, I’m in.

I’m giving you a bye for now, Leto. Don’t suck.

Jared Leto is a mixed bag for me. I first encountered him with his band 30 Seconds To Mars many years ago. I did like his Oscar winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club. But then so many other things he's done have turned me off.

As a Tron fan, I will have to go watch this trailer and see I can push myself to be on board.

I did not get into Dallas Buyers Club. I think Leto was just way over the top in that. But one time where he was weird that did work for me was House of Gucci.
