I was trying to come up with an idea for a toy photo today and, as happens more often than not, I went with a concept that came to me VERY last second.

Instead of a big action shot solely featuring the Cosmic Legions Noveunn Leen figure, at left, I combined him with the Toylanta-exclusive Cosmic Legions ATL-25 and did a face-to-face that I captioned “Squaring off, or… Say it, don’t spray it.”

I love the defiance evident in both faces. Neither is backing down from the other. Neither is, at this moment, stronger or weaker, winner or loser. Until someone makes a move, they are both and neither. A Schrödinger’s cat of violence, if you will.

It wasn’t until after I posted it that a friend commented “Enemy Mine!” and I immediately knew from where I unintentionally drew my inspiration.

I absolutely adore Enemy Mine. I have since I first saw it as a kid on HBO. Two enemies who become reluctant allies to ensure they don’t both die when stranded on an inhospitable planet after a battle. Dennis Quaid as the human Davidge and Lou Gossett, Jr., as the alien Drac… they were brilliant. And I purchased a digital copy from Fandango@Home where it was on sale for $5 just a couple weeks ago.

So, yeah, I guess it could’ve been on my mind when I set up my shot. Just a bit.
