Books
One thing that has suffered greatly as a result of me owning an Amazon Fire tablet/reader is my use of the Apple Books app for reading.
I had started to amass a decent collection of books and other documents in there. But then I got my Fire and, since Apple doesn’t make their app for any other OS or device, I could never read what I picked up. So I actually went so far as to remove the app from my Phone knowing I preferred the larger size of the Fire to reading on my phone.
Yesterday, though, I remembered that I owned a copy of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale on Books and I really had a hankering to read it so I redownloaded the app and checked out my library.
Dang! Joe Hill, VE Schwab, Jeff Lemire, Cory Doctorow, John Scalzi, John Carreyrou, Victor Lavalle, Bram Stoker, L Frank Baum, Mary Shelley, Timothy Zahn, JH Patterson, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Dan Brown, Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas, John Green, Stephen King, Veronica Roth, Nicholas Sparks, and, of course, Margaret Atwood, among many others.
There are some serious heavy hitters in there! I guess I’m gonna Have to start using my phone for reading. Although it would be nicer if Apple made an Android compatible interface for Books. Hey! One can hope.
I want to use Apple Books more often. And I have about 20 or so books that I have purchased or ones they have for free. But I keep getting tempted by Audible sales like 80% off certain titles. Or the 99 cents a month for 3 months that get me 3 current books.
Now to start listening to the many I have.

My Audible account is on hold currently. Waiting for a good sale.

You know how I was all excited to get Shogun and that was really going to kick things back into gear? Number of pages of any book read since then: 0. 2025 was going to be the year I kicked things up a notch after the reading reawakening 2024. It's June...I have read 2 books. 2.
