Memory
This may not end well for my work laptop…
After I got this alert yesterday, I flushed about 1/3 of my Chrome tabs and cleared all my TIFs and the alert went away.
But then it came back again today. So I flushed another 1/3 of my Chrome tabs and cleared out about half of my saved data in Notes. Yes, I keep a lot of tabs saved in Tab Groups in Chrome for each of my active projects saved across four windows. The tab count was way up there but not nearly as bad as I’ve had it in the past.
But what was funny was with each Chrome tab or Notes page I deleted, the memory counter ticked upward on that alert. That’s not what should happen. It should go down, logically. So I manually shut down each of the four programs and rebooted my laptop.
It didn’t show up again the rest of today but I’m curious to see what happens when I’m back at work.
Yes, I alerted tech support. I think I’m probably coming due for a new laptop as this one is four years old and I tax it quite a bit. Plus I’m the only person who does my job so they can’t afford to have me down for the count. We shall see.
I have learned over the last 10 years that Chrome has gotten worse with each additional update. Last November when I got my new Mac mini M4, I decided not to put Chrome on it. I saw errors so many times on my MacBook Air and iMac (not the one you are getting) but enough crashes that it became unusable.
Good to know you will get a new laptop. Curious how other browsers behave on this same laptop.

There’s no guarantee I will get a new laptop. Just reported the issue but haven’t heard back. Other browsers work fine but I don’t use them as much. I kinda have to use Chrome as there is software with extension integrations I need. I might try though. I just don’t know which way to go. I assume Firefox is the next best. What do you use? My laptop currently has Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

I mostly use Safari, but use Firefox for most everything else. I do have Chrome still on my MacBook Air and iMac 2017. But slowly moving tabs from it over to my Mac mini 2024 M4 Firefox.

No way to export tabs and tab groups? Or does FF not allow tab groups?

I have been manually moving tabs - copy and paste - from one Mac to another.
