Oral 2
I realize I kinda posted a tease yesterday. Asking if we had enough treats for Nate’s post-surgery recovery without talking about the surgery. So here goes…
Nate has had an issue with one of his top incisors coming in. He’s lost and replaced basically every other baby tooth but that. Turns out he had three teeth in a row there… the baby, some phantom tooth, and his permanent. That phantom was blocking the way for the permanent to come in and kept it from pushing the baby tooth out.
Three years ago he had surgery to remove the baby and phantom and he’s been wearing upper braces ever since to widen the gap to allow the permanent to come in.
The tooth has since repositioned itself but it’s still lacking the will to come down on its own.
Today he went to an oral surgeon who cut into his gums and attached a bracket to the tooth, similar to a braces bracket, as well as a chain. Now his orthodontist will start adjusting the tension on that chain to drag the tooth down into place kicking and screaming. Like this…
The surgery is done and Nate, as he has been both times he’s seen this oral surgeon, was a rock star (surgeon’s words, not ours). Took just over half the expected time to get it done.
But he’s been laid up ever since upstairs. Not sleeping as we’d like, but on his iPad and Switch.
All he ever wants to do is sleep (he is a tween, after all) until sleep is what we want him to do. Go fig, eh?
Can someone want me to sleep more? Please?
Good to hear the surgery went well.

Thanks! Monday is his orthodontist appointment to attach the chain to his braces and start the tightening. That’ll be… interesting.
